Champix

I am in my 10th week of Champix and have gone from at least 25 smokes a day to now 4. For the last 3 weeks I have been extending my time when I smoke. First off it was none before 11am, then noon, then 2pm and now it is 4pm. I keep myself busy in the mornings, have my main meal at about 1pm. I then watch a movie from 2pm to 5pm. My dog joins me for a cuddle. I still have my coffee at 11am but check emails etc on my laptop to keep my mind of the 'coffee and smoke'. From 4pm to 9.30pm I have 4 smokes but I have half at a time, sometimes just a couple of puffs. They no longer have any taste and nothing enjoyable. I don't get a hit anymore. I am also lucky that I am not around smokers as they are the downfall for a lot of people. Champix has not upset me. I have not felt suicidal nor do I get nausea from them. I take the tablet in the middle of my meal. I think that Champix is the only way to go as it is working for a smoker of over 50 years. Good luck to you all and just keep trying. I actually have spare money and that is a nice feeling.

It's good to see you cutting down gradually I just quit all together but everyone's different champix is abit touch and go for me i'm currently 4 days into a quit attempt so much temptation everywhere that's good that your not around other smokers it's really hard for most people as they are the oppisite
Keep trying to aim for 0 cigarettes if you can

Thanks Webbquit. Are you having a problem with Champix??? When I was on Champix years ago I had problems with it, mainly very bad moods. I have come to realise that one has to work with Champix and not fight it like I did years ago. You may have to stay away from the smokers for awhile or ask them not to smoke when they are with you.

WOW! Apparently you haven't read the information on Champix. I suggest you do. There are 3 ways to use the Champix and I chose the third which is taking the Champix and cutting down to nil. No comment on the rest of your message.

Hi Sagittarius , that’s been my biggest problem , most of my friends smoke so I now have almost become a hermit to avoid the temptation , I’m on champix smokes as normal for the 1st 10 days , then cut down to 5 smokes a day , that was a big achievement for me as I was 40 plus a day and I’m 62 and been a heavy smoker since my early 20,s , 6 days ago I stopped smoking completely still on champix , crave a smoke at about midday , so stuff food in my mouth to divert my head away from wanting a smoke which is working . I had a health scare which prompted me to give up , ie lungs . I ended up with pleurisy just couldn’t breath , my only concern with champix now is I’ve read a side effect can. W shortness of breath but I don’t know if my shortness of breath is from champix or from the pleurisy I had

Hi Maxi361. Have you spoken to your Doctor about this? I have to see my Doctor every fortnight so he can keep track of the Champix and I. I am an Asthmatic but no problems have arisen. You are doing so well and much better than me especially the length of time you have been smoking. I worked out I have been smoking since my early teens and after 55 years I have finally woken up. Blimey I could have been a millionaire by now. LOL! Have a glass of water when you feel the urge for a smoke also you can get sugarless lollies from the Chemist which can help. I understand the "stuff food into your mouth" as I find I am always hungry especially for food I don't normally eat e.g. chocolate, biscuits, burgers, hot chips etc. My Doctor said not to worry as this is normal and one can always lose the weight afterwards. I find having my main meal at lunchtime has helped a lot. Keeping busy is what you have to do so that you are not craving or thinking about them. Email friends, play games on the internet, read, do puzzles, gardening, cooking, walking etc. Good luck, you will get through. I will be off them in about 6 days thank goodness.
