Today is my day 36 that I quit ...

The past 36 days have just been up and down, wanting to smoke, lusting after that cig and obsessing after that cig and then those moments when you go "thank God I don't smoke" I can now walk further, no heavy / tight chest and no signs of wheezing chest... I am grateful I could pull this off.... I will keep strong because I can always ask anyone of you for advice!!!

Hi Kesaree,
Congrats on your 36 days quit. You are past the physical withdrawals and now it is the brainwashing smoking has done to you that you need to conquer. In the beginning, I was successful by using complete willpower to quit. I have since realized after reading Easy Way to Quit for the 3rd time that if you truly believe that smoking really does nothing for you, you therefor will get nothing from smoking and therefor will not want to smoke. You will not / cannot crave something you do not want in the first place. I wish I would have understood this concept more in the beginning of my quit as I think if I would have truly believed smoking did nothing for me, I would have had a much easier time conquering the nicodemons brainwashing.

Wow, Kesaree, 36 days - this is my FIRST day. I don't know how I feel just now - sort of delicate and unsure of what to do with my time. Seems silly, I know, but there you are.

Thank you Ted67.
I hope your FIRST day wasn't to bad (I know it was, SORRY!). You will be absolutely fine though, just take it 1 day at a time and all the best.
If I could give you a tip on what worked very well for me... for these few days you are going to crave cigs like crazy, in short burst... when that starts, just start breathing, take in deep breaths of air hold for a few seconds let go... do this again and again for at least 3 minutes. Those deep breaths of fresh air and your concentration on doing this, helps the craving to pass. That is how I got past my first 15 days and then it got much easier. Take care.

Hi NotThisTime - It is comments and well wishes like yours that helps a person to keep going strong, thank you for your support and words of wisdom. Yes I believe it did nothing good for me, just made me lust after it, spend money on it and just made sure that my medical aid yearly allowance only lasted a few months. How long are you smoke free now? Here's to hoping that we both continue with our "no smoking" plans and that it all continues to go well for us.

Day 6 here for me .. Been using patches since last Monday. I think today has been the hardest so far, probably being a weekend I think !!

Hi Gerry, congratz on Day 8 today, I hope you are still keeping strong. Yes, I agree with you weekend and free time are the worst!!! but just hang in there at least for the next 2 weekends, it will definitely get better. I just take it each day as it comes, because it does get easier. Today is my day 40... and I am so proud of myself, I honestly can't wait for you to feel the same. All the best Gerry, keep fighting!!!
