e cigs are helping, but don't want to get addicted to them!

It's been 8 weeks quit for me, but I have been using an e cig with very low nicotine levels to get me through the cravings. In a smoking cessation program I was in, they suggested using the NRT for about 2 months. I'm just worried I'm depending on the e cig too much, but I still have times I want to smoke. Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated.

Hi bunny16,

Early in my journey I used what was called a cocktail e cigarette no nicotine at all. I only used it around alcohol from about day 30, it helped with the hand thing.

I also tried NRT gums and inhaler but both hurt my throat so in the end I chewed plain Gum.

I craved cigarettes daily for over 9 months, but the best advice I read here was something like regardless and what is going on in your life having a cigarette will not change anything, after the cigarette whatever made you run to them will still be there.

Hope this helps in some way, don't look to far ahead you only have to do a DAY an HOUR or a MINUTE at a time whatever you can handle

Good Luck

Thank you for the support. I am realizing I don't need the e cig as much, plus it burns my mouth! I just keep reminding myself how good it feels to be free! Dealing with cravings is much less stressful than always worrying about when I'd be able to smoke, or who was going to see me! I'd actually avoid social situations because it was at a time when I'd normally smoke, how stupid! I certainly don't miss having to change my clothes all the time if I were going out so I didn't smell bad. All your comments and tips are really inspirational!
