Time to stop the rot

schedule 10 Dec 2017

I decided to stop smoking after 50 years because of severe sinus problems. I was reading that smoking aggravates the sinuses. I stopped on 6 November 2017, 5 weeks now. I started with Nicorette gum and stopped the gum after 2 weeks. I have had a couple of slip ups. My partner is still smoking and I caved in after a few drinks but did not continue to smoke the next day. I have decided to stop drinking for a while so I don't get tempted to smoke. I have found that it has been quite easy as I haven't suffered any side affects, no mood swings, aggravation, irritability, just changed my habits. i have bought a few adult colouring books which really keep me occupied.

I one concern is my appetite and putting on weight. I have decided to start walking everyday around the lake (5 kms) and stay away from sweet temptations.

That is awesome advice Red-67... I'm going to use it!

Hey Mallapatta, well done! I too lived with a smoker when I first quit but did not blame him for making my journey more difficult. It was something I just had to do for myself. He has now also stopped smoking which is even better as there are no smokes in the house. Walking everyday around the lake sounds really nice and a great way to take your mind off the urges. That's the secret isn't it? To find alternatives to take our minds off the desire to smoke. I also like what Red-67 said above 'make that smoke something you do not want, not something you can't have'. Have a great Christmas!
