I am 72years old and started smoking at 15years,my first quit attempt was on the 20th of April and went for 29 days. Now aim trying again and it is hard today but I do know the pitfalls now so not one puff. So just have to be strong and get on with it!!

Hi Homebody,

Have you recovered well from your surgery? About the smoking, *hugs you tight*. Hopefully you can find the mindset you had again soon. I just had a thought because I know that you're wanting to go cold turkey again and will use the patch if required.

Have you ever spoken with Quitline? They were fantastic for me. Anyway, I'm not sure if you know this but I've heard a product called Quick Mist is good to relieve a craving pretty much instantly if for example you want to control the nicotine amount entering your body. Ecigs as you may or may not know have yet to be approved in Australia under the Therapeutic Goods Association.

You are not a failure so please try to remove that thought. I can tell from your posts how strongly you want to give up and you've done it for 28 days before so you know that you can do it.

Also, if you have a pharmacist that you really like, they can be really good at helping you quit and remain quit. Sometimes a quick 5 minute chat can be useful or even your GP.

Totally agree with your logic of not one puff because it potentially leads so many back to smoking.

You live in a very beautiful part of New South Wales.

Good luck lovely lady x

That is wonderful news and I'm extremely happy for you!!! I did exactly that the night before my quit date, got rid of everything and that has helped me immensely. I'm really glad that the patch has helped you. It most certainly helped me when I used it. I admire anyone that can quit cold turkey!!

I just knew that at the time I quit, I had way too much going on. The biggest most important thing for me was to give up smoking and not inhale all those toxic poisons. Health was and still is the biggest motivator for me.

I'm with you though, not one puff!!! Super happy that today was a bit more of a relief for you xx

Go for it home body and keep trying...you are doing well, keep at it! I am using patches and I recommend keeping on using them for at least 3 months...the cravings seem less frequent and to pass more quickly. I use them every day so that the minimal amount of nicotine, using the strongest patches mind you, is at a constant level rather than wavering up and down on different days. I know each person has to find what's right for them but you will be so much better off...you know you can do it!!!
