Getting better at it!

Day 8 today and feeling really positive. I am on my 6th week of champix for the third time. I never stopped smoking last time, but thought it worth a try again. I was having a hard time totally stopping, and kept getting just one more packet. This made me feel weak and miserable. I realised I had to make some positive changes to give me a bit of strength. Before my quit day I cut most alcohol and carbs, started eating lots of fruit and veg, taking vitamins (multi and b) and doing yoga 3 times a week. The champix helped me cut down from 40 years of 25+ to just a few a day. But the best thing I did by far was to watch the Allen Carr app, (watching and listening to him is much better than the book). This absolutely gave me all the mental strategies to stop easily. He helped me realise that there was nothing to give up, I was not depriving myself of anything, and that the feeling that I thought was craving for a cigarette was just a leftover empty insecure feeling from the nicotine, which would pass. I know I have a long way to go, but am feeling really happy and confident so far.

YAY Jakki!!!
That's absolutely sensational and I'm sure
you'll go from strength to strength. You planned
very very well x

Good on you, Jakki! There really is nothing to lose. I have a similar history to you - at least 35 years of 25+ and a few years of not quite that. I used Allen Carr's audiobook over two nights (while I worked - bonus!) and stopped smoking on the second night. Today I am 30 days smoke free, and I had to look at my quit app to know that. Smoking has been replaced by walking, creating, cooking healthy food and NOT procrastinating (ie - I'll just have a smoke and then I'll...) I'm free. You are too! Isn't it great?

Hi Jakki,
As Zandyness i also recommend the book of Allen Carr.
The book is about a hundred pages and is available online for free i think.
Overall Allen Carr breaks the illusion that smoking gives us something.
Once you believe that

Hi again,
Once you understand that smoking gives you nothing is way easier to overcome the urges both physical and psychological.
Keep up the good work.

I have been smoke free for 22 days, I have smoked for 50 years, tried many times to quit. Hopefully this time I will beat it.
Today was a hard day, nearly gave in and thought about going to buy some.
I am on Champix but because I weigh very little I found taking 2 a day made me quite ill. I have cut back to 1 a day and find if I take it at lunchtime it works for me. I DO NOT want to go backwards, just keep praying that God gives me the strength to keep going :(

Hey thanks everyone for the great support. I joined because the doctor said I had to, but it has really helped. Norms, I feel that you have beat it, you do have strength, don't doubt yourself, just remember there is no rational, logical, reason to smoke. I felt a bit tested today going back to work after 2 weeks. I used to have a cigarette at lunch. Today I got that feeling. I could have interpreted it as wanting to smoke, but just acknowledged it as that empty insecure feeling associated with nicotine addiction. I had lunch, got busy and forgot about it. These feelings are less everyday. Nothing bad will happen to you if you don't smoke. I actually feel really happy, not deprived. Congratulations to everyone who has freed themselves. You are an inspiration

And yes Zandiness, I feel so productive without all that interfering procrastination Of having to smoke first :)

Hey Jakki,
I'm so very pleased to here you are still
going from strength to strength.
You're right, giving up feels oh so good.
Never ever thought I'd say that!!!

I've been in champix now for 5 days and the headaches have kicked in. I start the
Blue tablets on Wednesday and I know I won't want to smoke. Water wate and water....dreams are freaky but I look forward to those . Need to sleep in arvo as no energy but I know this will all change once off the dreaded smokes. This is my fourth try for giving up on champix and side effects of nausea heartburn and headaches were all
Part of the program. Different side effects different times. Anyway let's see what happens....

Hi Rama, good on you for trying again. Yes those side effects at first can be debilitating. I tried to make sure I got lots of healthy nutrition, smoothies, salads etc. and also started to take multi vitamins as well as b to help with the stress. Have naughty snacks as well if it makes you feel good, but keep up good nutrition. I was a bit of a lounge lizard for a couple of weeks, felt a bit guilty, but had a good friend that explained that it's ok to allow yourself what you need. I agree, lots of water!!! I've also had several tries at champix with mixed success. One time didn't even stop. But watching my dad, who smoked for over 60 years, succeed by staying on it for the maximum time, has helped me to commit to the full program. I am on day24now, and just brought a new fridge. I feel proud and healthy, but admit that it is still on my mind. Watching Allen Carr helped me mentally. Hang in there Rama, there is absolutely no reason to smoke. We are working on reclaiming our confidence, concentration, good health, self esteem, energy, and most importantly... freedom from from addiction. We can do it xo
