68 days

schedule 29 Dec 2016

So i'm 68 days through quitting. It hasn't been easy as people all around me smoke, but i am determined to be a non smoker! I went and seen my doctor and he put me on champix, and it worked a treat. Sure there were crazy dreams and a few other things, but it really helped me. I'd been on it for about 2 weeks, went to a friends wedding and smoked like a chimney that night, woke up the next morning and just plain out did not want one, did not even crave one.

I've been, and still am, on a crazy emotional rollercoaster. Some days i'm great and happy and other days not so good. I had one slip up last week, and i bought a pack. My partner and I had a really big argument on one of my not so great days. I had about half of that dirty stick and threw it away, gave the packet away the next morning. It tasted and smelt disgusting and gave me a huge headache.

I always seem to be anxious though now, and it doesn't take much to upset me, i guess i just have to learn some new coping mechanisms. I have trouble sleeping now as well, before when i was smoking i could drink a coffee and fall asleep without an issue when going to bed, now i can't have caffeine after lunch or i won't get to sleep until about 2am. I'm starting to think my emotions and not sleeping are something more and will be going to see my doctor about it.

I was so happy coming on here and reading the success stories of people who were having trouble when i was trying to quit, well done to all of you!And to those still struggling, good on you for trying, dont give up on giving up, each attempt (god knows i had a few attempts) gets you closer to where you want to be, smoke free!

68 days! Seems so far.. I am only 5 days and the emotional rollercoaster is terrible, I am over the nicotine addiction now, I think. I mean no headaches etc like when i don't drink coffee for example. But when I am stressed or in an argument that's when I immediately smoke so I dread these moments. I've ordered some spirulina tabs, natural seaweed and some natural mood elevator tabs.. maybe it's placebo but this cigarette addiction was worts than i thought - psychologically at least.

Steve01, thanks, I'll definitely stay the full course, a smoker is something I do not want to be.

Stardaf, I remembering one of my attempts last year before the champix, I think I made 6 or 7 days maybe but I was going insane. I did not realise how addicted I was to it, and also the habit. I couldn't concentrate on anything, I didn't know what I felt or why I felt the way I did, but I certainly didn't like it. I caved in that time, but I believe it helped prepare me for my next time, knowing what I was up against. 5 days is a great achievement, keep going you can do it! I don't know if your into reading or not, I'm not usually but I had to do something with my spare time, , but I've just come across a book called The Power Of Habit, and it's helping me understand somethings and how to break bad habits. Good luck on your journey, you are doing awesome

schedule 30 Dec 2016

G'day from an expat living in Austria, Cameron. I've been a heavy smoker for 30 years and after a psychotherapy/hypno session I've gone through 2 weeks of mind hell so decided today I'm going cold turkey - 18 hours in and looking forward to being as far as you, but I hope I can help a bit.

I've been doing a LOT of reading through half the internet and apparently nicotine interacts with caffeine so we feel half the effect than a non-smoker. So just try backing down on the strenghth or the amount and that may help. I worked in pubs for years and it toook me a good 6 months of headaches coming and going and that was when I was still smoking. Food thought and good luck to us all!
