Hey Sandie, welcome! Well done for taking that first step and deciding to stop. You have nothing to lose and EVERYTHING to gain from this. How will you be doing it? Cold Turkey? NRT? How ever you decide to stop, I advise that you have some distraction techniques at the ready. Cath57 uses breathing, a glass of water and walking to move her to another location and avoid thinking about things. It was the mornings that I got fearful, the first cig of the day with my coffee. So I would make a coffee, take my i-phone and sit outside reading other people's posts and I would offer them support. By doing this I distracted myself from my own cravings so it was a double-wammy. I also had a list of jobs to do, small jobs like - unloading the dishwasher, sweeping the kitchen - general chores that would keep me distracted for just a few minutes. Then at the weekends I would have bigger jobs - painting the fence, tidying the spare room, arts and crafts. You get the general idea. Take the first few days/weeks hour by hour, as Greenman88 says. Keep a tally of how many cigs you haven't had, if that helps you feel proud of yourself. This is one of the most important things you can ever do for yourself. Stay strong, keep smiling and keep posting. Big hugs, flower, you CAN do this and we are here with you for the ride.
