Still smoking here, pack a day for over 20years. Have been on nightshift for the last 4 nights, everynight telling myself it is time to quit, this has been on my mind for a long time now, about 3 years. I still enjoy it but I know it has to be done for my healths sake. The thought of still smoking in ten years time and all the extra damage ill do if I keep going makes me feel sick.

Have been trying to think of the best way for me to go about it, researching the net for advice and what worked for others and so on, to be honest even thinking about it is making me feel depressed.

I think I am going to try champix as I have a prescription the Dr gave me a few months ago but havnt used yet.

In the past I have tried cold turkey, patches and gum but failed miserably. I think the depression is what I found the hardest, every attempt I made gave me the feeling of sadness like as if someone had died.

Im hoping it will be different with the champix.

Hi PJay. The fear comes to us all, it's perfectly normal. However you clearly want to stop or else you wouldn't have registered on here. As everyone on here already knows, I read a book called Allen Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking. He recommends you continue to smoke while you read the book. It stops the fear. I haven't smoked for 3 months now and I have got off very lightly. Mindset is the main thing. With the book, you can read it while using Champix. Perhaps it will help you, perhaps it won't but it worked for me.

Read other people's posts, we have all dealt with this in different ways and one of them will work for you. We are all facing the same demon, you can and will do this - you just need to believe you can.

Let us know what road you decide to take and keep posting. The first few days of stopping I would read others posts on here in replacement of lighting up, it really helped.

Keep it up Pjay... I just started 4 days ago. I do feel like having at least couple of draws and a lot of thoughts coming across my mind that its not going to be even a full cigerrate as I used to smoke 10/day. BUT THIS TIME I AM NOT LETTING IT HAPPEN. Last time I did the same and eventually I started smoking again.

I believe nothing works except your will power/ mind set. at the end of the day its YOU who has to decide either to quite or not.

Good Luck to all.

Hi PJ, welcome to our wonderful, brave, supportive, inspirational group of quitters, we are all really amazing, lol I am 46 days sincei last had a puff, I along with others have really struggled,I am the first in my group to quit, my family and friends still smoke. I used the tablets Zyban but had quite servere side effects, very depressed and cried constantly, have been off tabs for 4 weeks and think I am doing ok. I come on this site and read posts when ever I get cravings and if the cravings are really strong I smack WW brothers face haha. Try to keep your sense of humor and keep busy, changing your routine when and where you can, and post and comment whenever you need to, this helps us all by giving us something to read and hopefully smile or laugh at while we are going through a craving. Good Luck, and remember you are not alone.

Thanks Chezzel, congrats on your effort, thats amazing. Yes im glad i found this site, i really think its going to help. I was reading about the zyban and thought i might try that seeing as it is also an antidepressant, thought it may help with the depression that goes with quiting. The Dr has already given me a script for champix, im just in two minds on which one to go with.

I know i will need something judging from my last few attempts, they barely lasted a day.

Will try my best with my humor lol, nothing much gets me down except when i cant smoke, hopefully that will soon be a thing of the past.

Thanks for the support and well done on your effort keep it up.
