Quit when you are feeling ill

I quit when I had a terrible cold, fever, chest infection that lasted 2 weeks - in fact it works even though it feels like cheating compared to the people who really do this cold turkey. Having said that when I was recuperated from the illness I experienced extreme pangs of withdrawal but it did help that mentally I could tell myself "its been 12 days so the worst is over". I now wake up every morning and tell my wife (who is an aggressive non-smoker), "30 days since I last smoked. Etc..." It is a pity though that she will never understand just how hard it is!
Still, 50 days and counting and it really does get better. I put on some weight but I am exercising 4 times a week which helps.
Thanks for letting me share!

aggressive non-smoker ?? maybe she needs a smoke LOL well it sounded funny in my head :)
well done on the 50 days and no only a fellow smoker will understand trying to get a non smoker to understand will drive you to drink LOL
please read between my jokes and my thanks for your share.

Others not understanding and you still not smoking makes you even stronger person to go through it. Be proud of it. We are fighting something what a normal person never gets to fight. Live through it the gift is the confidence you get and that you never had before!

Once a smoker, always a smoker. Only a smoker can understand the addiction. Even when a smoker quits, the craving is never far away and will forever try to entice a quitter back to where they were. It is so annoying when non smokers trivialize the addiction and are flippant about the choices smokers make. Your wife should read the many posts on this site and realize they are written by intelligent beings who have been consumed by nicotine addiction. Am sure she could google sites that explain addiction. Cigarette addiction is the same as cocaine addiction... Wishing you well, Dronny07
