The Weight Issue

Well, it's no surprise that like most quitters I've experienced a little unwelcome weight gain immediately after quitting smoking cold turkey (I'm on day 16 now).
The first week, I snacked whenever I wanted because my focus was on dealing with cravings. The outcome? I gained 3 kilos in 9 days. So... in week two, I have been on a calorie restricted diet of 1500 calories a day and walking 5-10km on average each day. Snacks are all healthy and low calorie. The problem? I still seem to be gaining weight despite being on an overall calorie deficit of 600 calories a day!!!
Could my metabolism be a little screwy after quitting? Has anyone else gone through this and when did your weight balance out? Should I bother sticking to this low calorie (and very nutrient dense) diet?
I'd love any insights from a quitter who has been through this...

ive been off em close to 7 months and have whacked on 15 kgs...I have just started to flat line now...so will be time soon to drop a bit...but I think to hell with the weight whilst trying to give up the stinkn demons...once your comfortable with your quit then worry about your weight...better being a bit plump for a while than DEAD.

I'll give it a try. I have noticed that although the scales remain the same, I seem, on sight, to have lost body fat.
Hi Jack , Have a close look at your diet. Remember you have mental strength now. Start some light exercise .' change your diet and start living
