I am serious about giving up smoking now.

I am at the end of my tether where I know in my heart & soul that I must stop smoking now. I do believe that miracles do happen in this life. And I do believe that with a positive & a hopeful attitude that everything can be achieved accomplished & overcome. If you keep on trying then eventually you will give up. Stay positive & hopeful & you will get there in the end. Good luck to you all & stay strong.

I can tell how frustrated you are with smoking and you seem mighty determined to quit. It's really hard so my biggest tip is that you need REALLY good preparation. Set a date - some time in the next few weeks so that you can really absorb the fact that you are giving up something you love and rely on. In the meantime, make a list of all the reasons you want to quit - you'll be coming back to that list for many months. Then visit your doctor and see what assistance there might be.

We are all different but I attribute the fact that I haven't smoked for four months to those three things mentioned above : 1) time to say goodbye 2) full understanding of why you are putting yourself through this and 3) getting good advice about the support you might need.

Most importantly, keep on coming back to this site. Good luck.

It sounds from your posts that you know what you have to do and the reasons why. I found the hardest thing is actually picking a time and date to quit. Whether it wss fear of losing a so-called 'friend' or fear of failure, I found putting off my quit date felt easier than taking the plunge and just doing it. Looking back now I wish I hadn't procrastinated so many times. Yes it is tough at first but it actually doesn't take that long before you can start to see light at the end of the tunnel and you start thinking 'I am actually going to get through this'. Things do start to get better and you start to realise that the benefits that come from breaking your addiction far outweigh the temporary relief a puff on a cigarette will give you. I totally agree with Fullofhope that good preparation helps. All the best with your quit and I hope that 2016 is a smoke free year for you.
