Day 40

Posted in Quit experiences
schedule 2 Oct 2015

Day 40 has arrived and it is also the day I hit $1000 saved. What on earth was I thinking paying all that money to be a social outcast and to be chained up in prison? The truth is I wasn't thinking and I was acting on strong, hard-wired impulses which have an annoying tendency to stick around. Even getting ready to go away for the weekend and having a half day off work, the first, involuntary thought I had was to have a ciggie to celebrate the start of the long weekend. But of course I didn't because I am getting even more used to fighting that nagging, whining voice which is feeling so neglected lately. Instead, I have packed my bags and am ready to stride out into the sunshine, contemplating what gorgeous treat I might have to celebrate.

Have a good weekend everyone and stay strong.

schedule 2 Oct 2015

Hi Hope I wish you a wonderful relaxing weekend. It will be nice to get out in the sunshine for a well deserved break. Congratulations on reaching Day 40 and well done on the savings. Its amazing how quickly it adds up. As time goes on I could not imagine handing over $30 for a packet of darts. I think I would cry, it is just too costly. On a lighter note avagoodweekend. Keep strong xxx

Hi Fullofhope, congratulations on your milestone. Every passing minute is a new milestone and power to all who have gone down this road. Always be on guard because my craving "Margaret Thatcher" is always looking for someone who needs a reward. We all know this reward will lead to a downward path. We have noticed that smokers are treated like social outcasts. You won't see her confront someone who is a sugar addict. No monetary reward for her there. Your rewards are intrinsic and the extrinsic rewards come from your supporters. Don't listen to anything negative. Enjoyed sharing your journey and look forward to hearing more of your success.

I always breathe deeper on holidays. I have been able to smell my roses and the river and spring flowers. This is a good incentive for me to quit.

Congratulations Fullofhope, 40 days is a great milestone! I'm getting stronger too as the days go by I can just flick that thought of having a relaxing smoke....but then I don't feel so relaxed! You sound so happy and with it! I'm still struggling quite a bit and I'm on day 53! Got any tips? Have a great weekend in the lovely sunshine😀

I am also 40 days and not just without cigarettes but without any form of nicotine. This time round I've learned that the real culprit is nicotine! I always thought it was smoking but now I know for sure that after all these years I've become a serious nicotine addict whether its from smoking, vaping e-cigarettes or even taking nicotine gum. I seem to love nicotine too much but nicotine does not love me!

I know that each person is different and that we all have our own ways of staying off the cigs and my way of counter acting the cravings is to go for very long but brisk walks. I think I've walked miles and miles over the last few weeks, especially late in the evenings/nights when the cravings are at their greatest. I enjoyed the rush I used to get in the head when I inhaled cigarette smoke but I can get something similar/better and cleaner by doing exercise.

I'm hoping that after a few months I won't have evening cravings any more , so now I've set myself a new target to 90 days. I think I need to be free from cigarettes for 3 months in order to be sure I'm really over them this time.

After writing this, I'm gone go for a long walk!
