Day 17 and going strong.

So I am a couple days into week 3 of stopping smoking. I thought I would like to share some of my experiences I have had in the first 2 weeks.
The first day I gave was a very hard day for me. I was so moody and snappy. My poor partner, she must have thought I was the devil or something. I would snap at anything for example leaving a dirty cup on the side or not hanging her coat up straight away. I am glad to say that these moody snaps are getting less and less. I am now starting to count to 5 in my head if something is getting to me.
I found that the first 2 weeks have been very stressful. I have wanted to pick up a cigarette at least 2 or 3 times a day. I thought I would test my will power the other day. I went to the pub for a couple of social jars with a couple of my heavy smoker friends. We this was actually quite easy to say no to a cigarette. Once my friends realised that I no longer smoke they actually decided to stay in the bar with me instead of popping out for a cigarette. This helped big time.
My biggest problem with giving up is the hand to mouth motion. I miss it so much. Its the habit which I need to break. I find myself chewing on a pen or my fingernails. I have tried sucking on a lolly but I dont want to get addicted on sweets. But this has also started to go away.
Last night I played football for the first time since giving up smoking. I felt amazing. I could breath again. I didn't have to stop to catch my breathe or I didn't get a stitch. I was able to run faster and harder than I have ever run when I was smoking. My friends even noticed a big difference in my fitness. It has been just giving up the fags as I haven't exercised or anything.
My biggest advice on giving up smoking is just do it. Don't use nicotine replacement or these vape sticks. Just give it up. It will be hard but not as hard as trying to wean yourself of the vape sticks. You can do it. I know you can!!!

I like your thinking. I agree that nicotine replacement is a waste of time because that moment when one must go cold turkey will come. I am not an expert with nicotine replacement therapies because I figured 138 days ago that I would not replace one drug habit with another one. Just had to find out what I was made of... Seems to be working. My previous posts show my journey and it was not always easy, but I did it. If I can fight off a 45 year habit/dependency then so can everyone else. Again, I like your thinking and wish you well.

I found the nrt chewing gum manky,it made my mouth so sore and when i wanted a cigarette i just smoked one. Cold turkey has been the way to go for me but different strokes i guess. Great that you are seeing the difference with the footie, i see it when i'm running too. It's a great incentive to stay off them.

Well done Cassa you success will continue to strengthen your resolve . Keep posting and stay strong.

Good on you ! You are right - we have to keep it simple and JUST DO IT. Don't worry about being grumpy for a couple of weeks or months : you will be charming and lovely for the extra five or ten years that you live.
Keep on playing football to remind you that you have made a great decision.
