10th time and the last

I have tried to quit numerous times. I started smoking when I was 15. I've gone years without smoking at times but have gone back to it. I'm now on day two and want this to be the last. Interested in others who have finally quit after many attempts. How did you do it? I just rang the Quitline who reassured me by reminding me noone's perfect, I'm not a failure, just to keep trying. Have others successfully done that?

Hi Tosca,
Let us know more about you then we can support you from experience - good on you for quitting, its tough but worth it..
Read through posts for experiences similar to yours and jump on here if you need support, need to vent, etc.. I found this site so helpful in my quit attemp.
Are you using meds, patches, cold turkey?
how many did you smoke a day?
How are you dealing with challenges
Are you changing routines and habits?
Good on you for quitting, and stay strong..

Good luck Tosca88. My doctor told me that, on average, people take nine times to quit. This is only my third attempt and I have no interest in going through this again so I am detrmined to make this last.
As Dave says, this website is a fantastic resource with so many stories that give us hope and encouragement. It's so hard to do but made much easier with the support here.
Hey tosca, I have just started myself and I know how it feels so Because I write poetry, here is one that maybe we both can try to hold on to.
Never Lose Hope
Soft are the clouds
That float in the sky
As cool is the breeze
That passes you by.
We sit and we wonder
How things get so bad
Like withering flowers
Our lives get so sad
Some-times it’s hard
And we make our mistakes
Some-times we feel lonely
And the heart really aches
But there is a light
At the end of the road
A friend, a partner
To lighten the load
For when you are feeling
At the end of your rope
Never give up
Never lose hope
For Strength comes from inside
To help us to fight
So we can help others
Lead them back to the light.

I'm a journalist and when things get stressful they get REALLY stressful. That's when I reach for the cigarettes. Holidays are fine. I stop smoking, get healthy, feel great and then when the next big stressful day happens a part of my brain switches on and says "buy some". Then it goes downhill from there. So advice on ways to cope with intense stressful situations without cigarettes would be great

oh and i'm using patches. gum never seems to work ffor me because the "hit" feels too much like a cigarette. cold turkey makes me horrible to be with (even to myself!). have never tried champix. i'd be interested to hear what others have had success with
