Hardest time of my life

Posted in Quit experiences
schedule 2 Sep 2015

Soo I've tried too many times to quit, but lately I had come down with a very nasty head cold and ear infection and just thought enough is enough, my body is telling me to quit. As I approached peak points (such as days 3&4) I've never felt anything like it. I felt disconnected, groggy, lethargic, depressed, sevre insomnia ect so I had a cigarette to "ease the symptoms". This has happened 3 times now over the past month.. I just can't seem to get over how bad the side effects are for me. I really am determined to quit though, hence why I keep trying. Does anyone have any hints or tips as to how to manage these withdrawal symptoms? I honestly feel horrible. The worst I have ever felt in my entire life

Hi Clean Breather (nice name),

I have been trying to meditate which has taught me to breathe deeply and that helps for the lesser cravings. When the really tough ones come I have to go for a brisk walk. Also, having tried once with hypnotherapy and once with patches, I am finding this time easier with Zyban. The cravings are all still there and the moodiness and sleeplessness but somehow it seems to strengthen my resolve. If you are considering the medication talk to your doctor. Take ten deep breaths. All the very best.

Try not to focus on the times you give in an light up.

Your trying and eventually you will get there, think of all those cigarets you "didn't" smoke before you had that 1 slip to ease symptoms.

Im sure I speak for all of the members here when I say were proud of you just for trying your best.

Interestingly enough I too found days 3&4 much harder than 1&2 and have each time I tried to stop smoking. For me it was that day 1 & 2 were like 'See I can do this, I'm ok, it's not so bad' and day 3 & 4 were ' OMG this is going to be forever! No way!' and I would completly freak out. I have personally found that I needed help, I chose Champix and this has gotten me past that and other times. Maybe you need some help to get past the first hurdle? There is a lot to chose from. I also recommend meditation, when we smoke we deep breathe, when we stop smoking we stop the deep breathing. If u can sleep in the day as much as possible, this helped me ( I could only do it on weekends) let your body repair and your mind rest.. Best of luck to you..

Hi Clean Breather, I have now gone for 1016 days. The gains are worth the pain. Hang in there, change your habits, change your patterns, do new things , go for a walk, take deep breaths, it will get better.
