Day 20, such a long way to go

Posted in Quit experiences
schedule 26 Sep 2015

I think I have found this week harder then the first week - which seems crazy when all of the nicotine should be out of my system! I have been so incredibly cranky and short with my family and absolutely hating this side of me. I also miss some of the aspects of my life that I have stopped doing because it went hand in hand with smoking and now I need to stay away from it, to stay strong. I was so tempted last night and had my first beer in three weeks but did not touch a cigarette which is really good but didn't try a second beer.

Cant wait for the emotions to stop rollercoasting and to enjoy spending time at home again

schedule 26 Sep 2015

I enjoy doing the ordinary things that a free and independant person would enjoy. I like to stay at home too.

It's not just the nicotine. When i stopped one of the many things that felt strange was being at the club or pub and not hanging out a lot in the smoking area. It felt weird to just be inside all the time. Smoking has been such an integral part of so many activities and things you do and where you are that a lot of these feel not quite right. Causes anxiety and as you say crankiness. Takes time to get used to doing all these things without a smoke but it happens gradually. I think it is important to do the things you normally would but that is just what I did - only you can decide the best way for you.

I agree - the journey seems to get easier and then, all of a sudden, harder again. I know of no explanation except that everyone says it does. I think the best thing time brings though is that there is much more time between the cravings and, when they come, they are less intense. I had a day last week when I did not have a single craving - I could not even conjure one up. Then the next day the first one hit first thing in the morning. As others have said, it is a roller coaster and we have to hang on tight.

Good luck - you are doing so well and every day without a ciggie makes you more able to resist.
