3.45am and I am still awake....had a cig and then opened compariates journey line. Just had another 1/2 cig because there was no one else to have the ability to be a nightowl. Has anyone got a tip to help md through the moment of just taking a few puffs because life is not what I wanted it to turn out like

Once a smoker, always a smoker. You cannot change this. You have to find a way to overcome the craving. It's not easy but if you "reward" yourself for not smoking by having just 1/2 a ciggie you are still a smoker. Once you stop, you must stop permanently. That is why those who have quit for over 300 days still report on this site how many days they have not smoked. The first week is the hardest. I am up to day 42. I also hope the posts people put up on this site are inspirational and the journey of someone else inspires you. 6 weeks ago, one morning with 5 butts in the ashtray next to me I finally found this site. Went cold turkey then and there. I still have half a carton of cigarettes in the cupboard and this is a reminder that these represent $100 that I could turn into ash... They are not there as a reward I will " enjoy" after some milestone. Best of all, I love the fact that I can say NO to the temptation. I think the temptation will be there forever. If I can do it, so can you. People who know me even comment on the improvement in my appearance. There are more pluses from stopping smoking than continuing the filthy habit...

Hi Dragonlady I had wanted to quit for months but then one day I set a quit date and put it on this website to commit to the decision.i spent a full month evaluating WHY I wanted to fit and HOW I wanted to do it and decided on strategies to use to cope with cravings. Those three steps are so important because once you identify all the above you chew on it for a month and as your quit date approaches you are both mentally and physically ready. This is my most successful quit attempt yet and it's because I did those steps. You have to decide whether you want to be a smoker or a non smoker.Everyone fears the cravings but you seriously only get a few each day and they only last a few minutes and there gone.tTake time to contemplate what You really want and decide how and when you can achieve it. think having 1/2darts is just making you feel worse..some people practice for day, just one day to prepare before their quit date. Take time to have a relax and think and don't forget part of your plan is rewards Good luck x
