Hi Champix,

Stress is a part of the world we live in… some(may be a lot of it) of it is self induced, the good news is that it doesn't last for long.

Having smoke break does not really make the stress go away, if anything it increases stress.....I used to feel my heart do a lot more work after a smoke break…. surely that is not stress relief... And then followed by the feeling of hopelessness, guilt…. “it's too late”…doom and gloom…. It piles on!

The fact is,its not too late because you are thinking of quitting, if we can just hang on to 6 minutes(may be less) the next stressful situation then we might give ourselves the opportunity to work through that stress is induced by external circumstances. Also talking about it to your partner and/or hobby helps. In short, find a way to distract your mind from the stress.

All the best and ‘Que Sera’

Excuse my typo, I meant "Hi Lonnie" 😁

Hey Lonnie, stress is part of everyone's life. Good stress and bad. Look at non-smokers, they don't reach for a cigarette when they are stressed. I like Aia's advice, find something productive and healthy to deal with the stress. Go to the gym, have a squeeze ball at your work, chew gum, write down your feelings. Anything other than reaching for the item that is causing you the most stress in your life as well as feelings of guiltiness, shame etc. You can do it, you proved it last year. We are here for ya and all going through the same thing. 10 days for me right now. pete

If you think about it, smoking it self is the biggest stress, we don't want to smoke, but we think we have too, stress, we feel stress when we light one up because we wish we didn't smoke, we are stressed because of health concerns from smoking, smoking causes stress in social situations, it's not really socially accepted. Sometimes we avoid doing things we might like to do because we may not be able to smoke, stress, I could go on but I'm sure you get picture. So not smoking takes stress out of our lives, not adds to it. The addiction of nicotine brainwashes us to think that life is more stressful without it , when if fact it is causes it. The normal stresses of our lives are there, cigarettes or not, it's just that we are dealing with nicotine withdrawal at the same time. For me champix really takes away the urge to smoke and I feel much more relaxed knowing that while I'm not smoking, I don't have to be concerned with any of the above, it's a good feeling.

Keep going....Leonnie, and congratulations on your quit! Don't ever give up on your quit. You can do it. It's doable. I have been non smoker for over 5 months quit coldturkey . Quitting smoking cigarettes is the best thing I ever done for me. I will not smoke again.
