Champix Quit

Hi, my name is Ian and I quit smoking over a week ago!
I smoked for approx 18 years and finally I am waking up in the morning not wanting to go outside and smoke before my day even starts.
I have used Champix to do this and have been taking them now for over 3 weeks and although I do get some very weird dreams i have not smoked and although I obviously get triggers from my brain I have not really struggled with the thoughts. I try to divert my mind instantly and think to myself that i wouldn't want to give up again!
Champix is obviously playing a part with me and I worry how I will feel after the 12 week course but surely by then I would have mastered the worst part!!
I wanted to ask if anyone else was taking Champix and how their quit is shaping up? I would like to hear from people who have successfully done it this way.
Whatever your method of quitting I have admiration for each and every one of you!!
Ian

Gday Ian, well done on your efforts to date! I finished my last champix tablet today, and can't remember the last craving i had. I actually weaned myself off the champix by taking the last 6 or so over six days, so one tablet a day instead of two. I'm not sure whether this is medically correct or advisable, however it has worked for me. The sense of freedom is amazing, and is it this feeling that continues to reinforce to me that i have done the right thing! I can't believe i didnt persist with giving up in the past! I must confess to having a few side effects, however i continually reminded myself that they were just side effects, and the feelings or whatever would pass. Don't give up mate!!! cheers

I am cutting down to quit. My goal is to smoke five or less, including smoke free days. I had five smoke free days last month. I do a heap of other stuff instead. I have smoke-free outings now. In fact, I have only smoked at home for the last two months. Also I have promised to go to a classical music concert with my son once I have not smoked outside the doctor's surgery for four years. I only have one year to go. I am feeling healthier. Thanks for your post

well done Ian.I am also on champix and have just over a week to go.smoke free for 9 weeks. I also wonder how I will go when I finish champix. There is the option of another 12 weeks of champix and I have been to the GP today and got another script. My plan is to continue on the champix and to be more confident of dealing with any outfall when I stop. This is my second go at champix (last one 5 years ago) and I don't want to do it again.I was surprised at how quickly I gave up the first morning smoke. I no longer want to buy cigarettes even though I used to buy mine at the supermarket and I walk past here most days.I know from my previous attempt with champix I can't have just one puff. keep up the good work.

Thanks everyone for your comments, it spurs me on to hear other people pushing for a healthier life. The thought of not being in the trap of cigarettes gives me a sense of freedom already. I take a huge amount of comfort from your comments, thanks!!! :)
