Hi,

I am a non smoker for 15 days now, I have read Allan Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking, and it helped me see things in a different perspective, the first week was fine, no cravings and happy all the time, even tough i felt very Disorientated. But this week is really bad, last night i was so desperate for a smoke that i was looking for one in my house for more than a hour (Pathetic I know), The main reasons why i dont want to smoke is I want to sleep restfully at night again, cant afford it, my health and im looking to become pregnant.... I know of a few people who read his book and never craved for a smoke ever again.... I dont know what i am or have done wrong or why am i feeling so down, maybe because i still cant sleep at night and all i think of is smoking or smoking secretly (even more pathetic i know) this is the reason why i am looking for help from fellow ex smokers. PLEASE HELP ME or show me what else i must do! i dont know how long ill be able to keep up anymore, and i am going to dissapoint so many people :-(

Charney,

I certainly know how u feel. I found the 3rd week really hard as well. I was a pack a day for 25 years and now i'm 362 days smoke free. What I found for the 1st 2 weeks I was really committed and found it easy to not smoke but after that I doubted myself and started thinking I needed a cigarette so the cravings started to make it difficult. For me and why I am succesfull at giving away this awfull habbit is recognising it for just that, a habit, a stinky filthy habit that i wasn't born to do. I also logged onto this web site every day seeking inspiration from those who have succesfully given up and really taking on board the advice others on this site gave me in terms of their journey to once again becoming a non smoker. Charney, Do Not Buckle, fight the cravings, recognise it as a filthy habit, be positive about not being a smoker and seek inspiration from others. Good Luck and keep fighting...

Charney, kudos to you for going cold turkey on just willpower! I too read the book, but i guess my resolve just wasn't strong enough because by day 5 all I wanted to do was cry and eventually gave in to the cravings, which just made me more upset with myself. I decided to use champix and it is working for me, I'm on day 11 and not suffering at all, of course that could change but I truly don't think I will pick up a cig again. You have made it so far, I bet you can keep going and it will get easier. I find drinking lots of water helps. You've obviously got some strong willpower, you've proven that! Keep at it, all the best!

My tip....Forget about everyone else and their disappointment. It's a non-issue. If you want to give up smoking, there's only one person to do it for and you know who that is.

I'm lucky in a way. I've quit after 40 years, 40 a day. I'm on the champix, and patches, but basically I'm just tired of smoking. It just doesn't interest me much anymore, but I have the Champix and patches to control the cravings.

Do it for yourself, if you want to. It is pointless doing it for others when you don't truly want to yourself.

I find a few minutes if exercise helps, like jumping Jack's. If walking the dogs, whilst breathing deeply and reconfirming my reasons in my head . Avoid alcohol and caffeine. Even if you run around the room screaming, do what you can to avoid that first smoke. But if you do break, don't dwell. Realize how strong it is, and get back in the horse

Its my 2nd week of being smokefree coldturkey first try. I think if you really want to quit YOU JUST DO IT!!! we can have endless excuses for everything. If I continue to listen to my nicotine addiction I think I would still be killing myself... so I have to do what is really right for me.. which is kicked the addiction and NO MORE EXCUSES. Dont wait until you have CANCER already before you quit.
