Quit in 2 weeks
After smoking for 25 years I tried a lot of methods to quit without success, until I was told 3 things. Taking deep drags of air de-stresses as good as smoking, nicotine hyjacks thirst receptors to cause addition and nicotine causes the cravings. So I took 2 weeks off work, warned the family not to hassel me, drank chilled water when I felt like a smoke, went outside and inhaled air as if i was smoking when I got stressed and avoided nicotine for two weeks while I went cold turkey. Turned out to be really easy compared to slow drawn out quitting. I used to smoke 15 a day, occasionally 3 packs in a night out. But giving them up turned out to be no harder than quitting Jatz biscuits. I still take smoko breaks I just don't smoke. if you crack and have one, don't worry just keep going. The less nicotine in your system the easier it gets.
One last thing: quit for you. Quitting for others always ended up with me smoking when they weren't around.

Interesting what you said about the inhaling of oxygen like a cigarette. I am just crazy enough to not care what other people think.
I don't do it often any more. for a while there it would drive my wife crazy me suddenly taking a deep breath like a backward whistle.

I like the deep breathes of fresh air thing, I think it will work for me. I am on day 3 cold turkey after 30 years smoking. Thanks for the tips, my mind is in this and I know that is the most important thing, but I will use the deep breathes tip.
