Today's the day I quit!!!

Well today I have decided to quit smoking!! My husband and I said we would quit together but he has now been smoke free for 2 weeks. Me on the other hand couldn't stop. So I've decided I need to be serious about it and take the plunge.

I woke up found my packet of cigarettes and poured water a all over them and threw them in the bin. That was hard to do as I find my hardest part of the day is first thing in the morning. Yay to me for doing that!!!

The reasons I want to quit is for my children and myself. I want to see my children grow up and I don't want them to see me when I become worse off for continuing to smoke.

As for my health I can feel my chest be tighter, it's harder to breathe when going on walks, climbing stairs etc.

ive joined this page in the hope to see other peoples journeys and to have some extra support.

I wish I took it more seriously and quit when my husband did. I did try and stop but I just couldn't do it. Now it's time. I'm over smoking and the effects it's having on me!!!  Oh I'm doing this cold turkey too!!!

If anyone has any hints or tips or some advice I would love to hear from you. Support threw this would be a great help!!!

Good luck to everyone!!!

Cheers Kim

cold turkey is the way to go i am 166 days smoke-free and i am doing it cold turkey the first thing to do is get rid of all things that remind you of smoking, change your routine a bit drink plenty of water and try not to replace food for cigarettes limit your coffee intake and just relax and take it easy and don't put another cigarette in your mouth well all the best and stay strong.

Hi Kim!

My best tip is to rejoice over the withdrawals! Picture it a battle with the nicotine monster. You are starving it so its starting to jump up and down, scream and kick. Every time you don't feed it you punch it and slowly start to kill it off. Next tip, deal with the brainwashing that a cigarette gives you! You think because your not smoking your missing out on something! Well your not, its just the brainwashing telling you so. Fight the brainwashing by celebrating every withdrawl. Give yourself a pat on the back. Your getting healthier and you are no longer trapped. You will not smoke again and there is nothing the nicotine monster can do about it. There's no choice about smoking or not smoking, its just not going to happen again for you. Chin up! Your life is getting better by the day! Celebrate! Im on my sixth day. Last tip, read Allen Carrs Easyway to stop smoking. It will keep you busy and motivate you extremely!! No Joke!! And he doesn't use scare tactics.
