I never gave up!

I am now 15 days smoke free.  I smoked my last cigarette 31/12/13, so that I could start the New Year with a clean slate.  I didn't call it a resolution as those fail too aften with me.  I stopped on that day simply to make it easy at least for the first few days to know exactly how many smoke free days i have had 1st = 1 etc.  I had a terrible cough while smoking that my partner was getting very concerned about.  I put it down to a cold.  Since I have stopped smoking the cough has all but gone and it used to wake me a few times each night.  Now i am sleeping longer and waking up more refreshed.  Food doesnt taste any better and I look forward to the day it does.

Some days my cravings are so bad I almost break, but then i remember how long i have been free and the craving usually goes away within a short time.  I also recall how much I loved our trip to Tasmania a few years ago and more recently to the Dubbo zoo...Now we are getting older and the family is all grown up we can get out a bit and go places, but I cant afford, financially, to smoke and travel.  I had to choose and I chose my health and my new found love.

I look forward to adding to this every now and then as i struggle through this horrible addicition to nicotine I have.  I also look forward to reading many other stories of how others have quit and what they have used to help.

In the past I have tried patches, sprays, and even hypnosis. All worked for a very short time only....a few days was the best.

Hi Shtaba, you made the right choice! You do have to just wait out those cravings, they can be pretty severe in week three, but beatable. It seems to help to have a plan for when the cravings hit, a friend listens to music, I found using my iPad, specially with a cigarette sized stylus, really helped. Anything that buys a little time.... And posting and reading posts on here are a huge help. I'm just over six months smoke free, crazy journey but so worth it. All the best and stay strong.

Steve01, did you know that all up you can get 6 months champix in Aus...You have to have quit, they give you the extra 3 months for support according to my Dr..so after that second lot of 2 months you can go back and get another 3 months to make sure you quit! My problem is i get cocky..and think i dont need the help any more...and then yes, its one and then 3 then 5 then 10...then trying to quit again..better off not to have the first one.
