The First Week

Well a weeks been and gone and you know what, it wasn't as bad as I'd expected. For those that haven't seen my first post, I was really anxious the week leading up to my quit date. I felt edgy, I smoked more than usual.I'd planned on having my Nicorette Quickmist spray handy as I was expecting to really need it. Well I haven't used it once. Haven't even really felt the need to.So far the worst was the first Sunday and Monday nights. Worst insomnia ever. I think I managed 3 hours sleep over those 2 nights. So I went to the doc and he gave me something for that, and then wrote me a script for Champix (even after I said I'd prefer not). He told me just to hold on to the script in case I decide I was going to need them.Had Tuesday night with a sleeping tablet and had a good night sleep then Wednesday insomnia again. I decided even still not to have a pill on Thursday night (I figured I'd done 2 nights on veryy little sleep earlier in the week) and no issues this time. Then Friday night was a work function. I was originally not going to go as our work function generally entail copious amounts of alcohol and I was a little unsure how I'd go. In the end I decided to go out for it and managed to drink without smoking at all. Even with most people sitting in the smoking area at the place, so I was stoked with that. Figured since I could do that this whole thing should be relatively straight forward.
Maybe I'm just really lucky, but so far I've found this to be significantly easier than I thought. It's quite possible that this time I'm really ready to stop for good and so I've just decided that enough is enough and my body and brain are dealing with it.From this I have one tip for anyone that really wants to give up that's just starting out (and I told my supervisor at work the same thing). If you're not ready to give up smoking, it's possibly worth waiting (actually my doctor told me the very same thing about 6 months ago). If you really want to and are really ready to stop it really is a lot easier. I've tried previously with and without aids (patches, gum, inhaler) and this is the first time I actually know I'll succeed, and I'm doing it cold turkey!!
All the best to all you new non-smokers out there :D

Hi Jeffo83,
I do remember your post you used to stand outside with smoke in hand and not smoke it. Well done you on getting to a week milestone. I am sorry to hear you are suffering insomnia. I hope it subsides soon, your body is going through a big change just needs time to adjust. You faced a big challenge in your first week and got through well done that will stand to you. I have to agree with you on quitting when you actually want to.... I know everyone is different , it can set up a cycles of repeat starting stopping. It would drive me bannanas, and bring me down alot. I will never smoke again I am so over it, never want to go through quitting process again.I know also that at this stage if I did smoke I would not enjoy it.... it may take a pack of smokes for me to get the kick again so that will never happen, the association of smoking and enjoyment pathway is broken for good. Well done cold turkey is a hard one put you are doing it good for you. Keep it up
