Staying Quit

I have been smoke free for 56 days. I still get cravings or maybe thoughts that I want to smoke... I smoked for 36 of my 48 years of life - I have managed to incorporate smoking into every aspect of my life. I have tried many different things to quit - this is my third time doing Champix. I chose Champix as my quit aid because in all the years of trying everything out there to quit, Champix was the one product that actually got me off the smokes for a period longer than a day. Every other product didn't even get me through one day. I have learned, this 3rd time round with Champix, that I cannot have not even one puff of a cigarette - otherwise I'll be back to a pack a day and all this time will be wasted. I am at day 56 and I find I am looking at the internet to see if other people who have quit still get thoughts, cravings, etc. for cigarettes this far into quiting. It is very helpful to hear that others out there are experiencing the same things I am. I use the internet as my support and facebook to announce my progress. I am gaining weight - but I knew that I would and I know that the weight gain will be less detrimental to my health than smoking 25 cigs a day. I love that I don't smell like smoke - the smoke from a cig is a different smell than smoke from a piece of wood burning in a fireplace..I just hope that I will stop thinging about cigarettes soon and wonder if I can say I am a non-smoker if I'm only 56 days being quit. Hoping that this will be easier as the time goes......

Congratulations Kasmith, 56 days is awesome. Like you after many attempts I am trying again, day 5 today. I so look forward to getting close to your 56. From past experience I too know that just one puff leads to more.

It sux to hear that the cravings are still present for you but stay strong you didn't come this far without determination, keep it up!!

Hi Kasmith,

well done on 56 days ! well done after smoking for so long. Good for you. It is normal enough to get cravings or thoughts of cravings at this stage, it comes into the head often, it is more or a realisation god yeah I do not do that anymore its awesome feeling to be still on track. Mind over matter. I gain weight too , 2 stone but have half a stone gone now, doing things the healthy way, slowly otherwise what is the point!!! I personally find it is more water retention. You are a non smoker of course the minute you let go of the smokes you are a non smoker. Congrats and look forward to congratulating you on the 100 day as a non smoker.
