The tepid turkey - the end

I came back to Australia, and that was the last time I smoked. No more illicit affair with tobacco.

I chucked the turkey out. She is still on my verandah doing a tap dancing routine, and trying to entice me into a cigarette, cigarette, cigarette,  every time I step out.

But I am stronger than her, and longing will not kill me. Smoking will. I watch her with amusement and exasperation. She has installed a neon sign on the verandah, that says “Come on Baby, you know you want it.”

And you know what, she is right. I want it. At time it eats me up. The yearning is so strong, sometimes all  I want to put  my beanie and sunglasses on and rush to the tobacco shop. But I don’t and it passes.

Jiminy and I are not quite at the stage where we share private jokes about smokers, but my 10 years son has put a tick on my to-do-list, where says “Stop smoking”.

Good luck to all of you.

hey have to agree with chrisco, you have to stop thinking of the smokes in any aspects. You CAN do this. You are on the border having smokes around you. I know you want to quit, and the best advice I can offer having being through it is, let go of smokes, be harsh , get rid of any trace in the house car etc. Trust yourself, take slow steps , when you get a craving , distract yourself, get out for a walk. It will be a hard transition, it is a period and a process. But I have every faith in you that you can beat this. I remember the hardest part of quitting for me was that place, stuck it actually is a relief when you let go and embrace non smoking. good luck , post here anything you are experiencing.

I wrote this silly story as a way to exorcise my demons. I don't smoke anymore. I've not done so 7 days, and I'm sure I will never again. I used to TRY to stop smoking, which is very different from stopping. Every one cope with the cravings differently.

Accepting ones cravings is the first part of the journey, surely. You guys may be further along the road of newly non-smokers, but I've been around long enough to know that denial can not sustain one for very long. So I will acknowledge my cravings, stop to say hi, and move on without giving in, which frankly is worth more than anything. As Mr Henley so skillfully said it:

I am the master of my fate,

I am the captain of my soul.

Your story is great Caro. It's fun and very real. I am 14 days in with no cigarettes and prefer to laugh about it than make it some kind of soul searching journey. Everyone to their own though.
