No time to plan a quit day

I am just in my 2nd day of quitting,I am trying not to think the amount of time as it feels like I have struggled for a week not just 1 1/2 days.

I always wanted to be a non smoker and have had numerous attempts.

Went to a specialist the other day and I need an operation in a month,he said he will not operate if I am smoking. So I went home and finished my tobacco, took me till midnight, put on a patch ,brushed my teeth and went to bed. Thats all the prep time my mind and body had to get ready. Strangely felt calm about my new life and am coping ok.

Today my body is feeling in shock I think as my mind is feeling weak, but I just keep thinking I wont be able to have op and I cant cheat and have a puff either as the operation is the brain area and specialist said the smoke will create a collapse of the area, so I just keep thinking I want this to be a success or I will die anyway. So I need to give myself every oportunity I can.

Today I am feeling a bit sick, flu like symptoms (not flu) light headed, tired and crappy. I would love a smoke and in the past I have weakened at this point, but this time a very loud NO is ringing my head and I know it has to be done.

Your journeys I have read here have encouraged, strenghtened me on my very sudden and urgent journey to give up. Thankyou

Hi MarW - you are better than me. At your stage, in fact up to a whole week I was counting the hours. Every minute was a personal achievement. Although not as radical as your story, I was also 'forced' to give up. I have stage 3 Emphysema and had similar choices. Giving up was the only thing I could control in giving myself a better chance. You hang in there. Day 3 for me was the VERY worst for some reason, and then day 7. Maybe ask your doctor to prescribe Champix for you. It blocks the nicotine receptors in your brain so you are not supposed to enjoy smoking anymore. I have only made it to day 34 because of them. Good Luck!!!! Rooting for you.

Thanks leighdo13 for the encouragement. Am unable to take Champix or the other one due to the brain tumor. The patches are holding me atm but the e-cig has tricked my mind so fingers and everything crossed. Have also removed all triggers, except coffee I just cant do it ;)

No No No ! you can do it.. I think Marg you and I are at the same stage.. we shall help each other .. I too am struggling, Now home from work and be so easy to pick (just one ) smoke.. How bad is it that such a thing can have such a hold on us.. They say by the 3rd fourth day the nicotine is out of system.. Then we need to train our brain as from then on its "habit" We are going thru detox now ! Stay strong and so will I :)
