7 days cigarette free...

Hi All,
I am currently on my 7th day of being a non-smoker! I'd just like to thank everyone who has shared their experiences on this forum, as the cravings today have been particularly tough and your stories have been really motivational.
This is my second attempt at quitting. I previously quit for approximately two years (2003-2005) using patches. So as of seven days ago I am back on the patches and doing well so far but todays cravings have been particulary bad (boredom perhaps - I'm not sure).
I have been one of those smokers have have been saying for what feels like ages that I want to quit but have just not had the inclination to do it. I am a 3rd year nursing student so I know very well the effects that smoking has on my body and working in the Respiratory ward of a major hospital has been the kick in the pants that I badly needed. I do not want to be a 65 year old attached to an oxygen tank or who gets blue in the lips and face just walking to the bathroom. I want to be a positive influence on my future children and to show my family members and friends that they can do it too!
Well that's enough rambling from me for now I guess - It really is nice to know that we have somewhere to go for inspiration and motivation when it's needed.
Wishing you all the very best on your quit journey

Hi dr.feelgood - that is an excellent question. I don't honestly know, I was younger and it probably stemmed from thinking that I could be a "social smoker" and just took off from there.

Hi little birdy day 21 for me. I'm on patches too and the cravings are not as bad as when I first started. This is my fourth and last attempt. I've been very lucky I have 2 adult children that are both non-smokers!!

Thanks MickeyJ - every little bit of encouragement is appreciated! Looks like you are going great guns, was tired reading about your gym escapades :)
Good for you Quit4Good - you sound really focused! Sounds silly but my cravings really subsided after I entered my post on here, maybe I just needed a bit of a vent to get rid of them :) So glad you have your kids backing you, it really helps to have positive influences. My husband has also given up with me (he is a social/weekend smoker) so that has been a real help so far - keep up the good work!
Hey little birdy. Good luck. Stay strong. You've done it once, you can do it again, this time for good!
