smoking and alcohol

I recently gave up for 2 weeks and I thought I was invincible! Then I went out and had a couple of drinks. My thoughts before I went out was 'I can have a couple and back to being good tomorrow'. A week on I am smoking heavier than I have in the last couple of months. I will give up again next week when the meds kick in as I thought I was going so good I stopped taking them. Lesson to be learnt - don't think your invincible and keep taking whatever you need to keep those cravings at bay.

Hi Lindylou. I had exactly the same problem as you. I could give up for a while then have a few drinks & have no self control & slip in a few ciggies. The next few days after that I would smoke heavily because in my mind I was getting in as many as I could before I gave up again! This process happened many times. This time I have given up alcohol completely (For a year) & have not had nearly as many cravings. Socially it's hard but I'd rather go through some discomfort than face the many health issues later. You can do it. Obviously my advice is pass up the drinking for a while & it will be easier in the long run.

Hi Timbo 74

Thank you, my new quit date is this Monday. I have been on holidays for the last 2 weeks and thought it would be a good time to give up but no.... Anyway back to work and I think it will be easier to give up then, and yes it will have to be alcohol as well. How rich am I going to be! I am heading to Bali in June and would love to be smoke free by then as most of the people I am going with do not smoke. Wish me luck as I am looking forward to feeling good and getting this monkey off my back for once and all.
