NRT?

Ive read and looked up lots about methods of giving up . Allen Carrs " easy way " is like a bible to me .
Not just Allens method, but other experts all tell us that NRT is pointless and it makes sense ( to me ) As long as we feed the addiction it becomes harder and harder to give up , by restricting the intake of nicotine you are punishing yourself over a long long period of time and eventually will have to kick the nicotine addiction . With the right frame of mind and 48 hours of " light " withdrawal pangs it is possible to firstly beat the nicotine addiction, the hardest part ( for me ) is the psychological part of stopping doing something that i have done for the past 35 years but with the right frame of mind this too is not as bad as what we are led ( brainwashed ) to believe . Ok I m only on day 12 as a non smoker but ive tried before with NRT and / or cutting down and I have never ever felt as confident as I do now , I have light depression ( down in the dumps ) but I know that will pass . More importantly I Know I will never smoke again , the brainwashing of why I smoked has been undone thanks to Allen Carrs book . I havent put on weight and do not binge eat , its all in the mind .
Ive started to eat healthy , lots of fruit and veg , lots of honey , seeds and nuts . I tried going running but it totally did me in, so Ill wait a bit before I continue with that .
Back to the point of this post , I do not understand why NRT is recommended by doctors and experts

Awesome 12 days, without a cig and no NRT congrats. Yea its whatever works for you, and you are beating this!!!

Hi mrsimon. Well u & I seem 2 have a lot in common. Our age group but more importantly our desire to beat these cigs 4 good. Ur on day 13 now & that's a good achievement. Keep it up! Good work. I take my hat off 2 anyone who can go cold turkey but at the end of the day it's just simply ur mind telling u 2 have something u DO NOT need.

I completely agree with you about NRT. I was so addicted to nicotine gum and just had to cut out all nicotine products. I quit a month ago and don't envy smokers because of what Allen Carr taught me about the 'terrible weed'. But if NRT works for others, good for them. Just not for me!
well done going cold turkey, hope all is still going strong and well. i am new here, 31 years old, and i believe im a heavy smoker, i love smoking.. why do i love it so much :( im PLANNING on quitting , ive never been serious about quitting till now and never made this move before. its all new to me. so thats why im here to see where to start. im going to require NRT though, im way too addicted to smoking, i also run my own business from home, as a graphic designer so creating, designing, having my cuppa and smokes is my thing. its horrible habit and i have a tight chest right now, i want to quit, i have to work out where to start. :(

You are so correct. Your temporary depression is just that, temporary. All long term quitters were at exactly where you are at, at one time. You have the exact right way of thinking regarding NRT and going cold turkey. As Allen Carr said, the bigger monster is the one in your brain that has brainwashed you into associating cigarettes with feeling good. My one best piece of armour was making quitting smoking my number one priority over everything else. If it was becoming too much and I felt I was going to cave, I would allow myself to lay down and go to sleep. When I would wake up the craving would be gone. The other tools you are deploying; exercising, eating healthy, are fantastic as well. Conintue on the path you are on and before you know it, you will be one month, 3 months, 6 months, and then a year quit.

Thanks for you words ! Yes the main fight is with the brainwashing :( I truly believe Alen Carr has re wired my brain and even brainwashed me , in a positive sense ... I actually find the not smoking easy , well he tells us about 1000 times its easy so i guess im brainwashed lol , the nicotine craving has gone .. sometimes i get caught off guard and feel I need a cig but its temporary ... its just the down in the dumps that I hate , I wouldnt call it depression as such , ive seen depressed people and its different .. i guess i feel more p*ssed off than depressed , not angry ! ive not had an angry attack at all ! I guess ive done something every day , 30 times a day for 35 years now its stopped ?

And its only two weeks right now at this moment that I stopped, so maybe the calm before the storm ? Im going to Mexico in 2 days for holiday and am meeting a non smoking ( has never smoked) friend there on my 2nd week., it will still be hard especially if we drink but I m not a drinker as such . , God fcuk , I just never want to smoke again , Im loving this feeling right now , my body is thanking me everyday , every hour that I dont smoke
