a newby and looking for any words of wisdom. I have been smoking for about 15 years and have been "quitting" on and off for years now. I have always battled with the excuse of "it's not the right time" and that one more pack won't hurt. I guess I'm looking for advice from a person that struggled getting it through their head that it has to stop. I know it has to stop if I want to stick around for my kids. I am in the military which has always been a hard environment to quit in, well that's one of my excuses anyway! The money has always been a kicker as far as I can afford to buy smokes, but I don't think I know anyone that can not afford to quit when it cost $10,000 a year to support it. Anyways any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Darbin. You will give up when you really want to and all those excuses are what they are . Just excuses. The problem with smoking is the belief that one won't hurt and we kid ourselves that one day we will quit. That one day we quit is totally in your control and you need to make the decision and mean it. Make a list of all the harm cigarettes are doing to you and keep it close. Make another list of all the benefits and keep that close as well.
Stay close to this site and be honest on your journey. You can quit and you know it but the option of continuing has been too strong. Get rid of that option in your mind and you will quit.
There are numerous tips on this site. For me I went cold turkey. Told my wife and family I was quitting. Bought numerous packets of toffee eclairs for the first month. Took really deep deep breaths when cravings were bad. You can get through it as its not that impossible but the deal really has to be between you and yourself. Good luck. Hello and welcome Darbin. I am not sure which method you're going to try but no matter what...you really have to want it too. Your head must be in the right place, and you will know when that is.....starkly when there is no excuse left. Keep reading this site for inspiration, stay focused and positive. Chewing sugar less gum is also helpful.
I used Champix and it was successful for me. Everyone is different and different methods work for some and some not etc. Small steps lead to huge leaps, good luck on your journey and keep us posted.

have to agree over the years we build up a bullsh$t barrier as our defence to keep smoking, and when debunked we find out they are all lies, they have to be to keep sucking poison in to our body's.

I have poisoned and suffocated myself for too many years. I want to stop poisoning and suffocating myself. I could never see it like that before. Nicotine is harmful to me. I don't care what they say about it scientifically because I know for a fact that nicotene is harmful. For me its about giving up nicotine and not just cigarettes. Over 113 days now. If I can do it ( 2 packs a day) then so can anyone!!
