What has worked for me

1. Reading the posts of everyone on this site. Inspiration and also understanding of the start of the journey. To a smoke free life.

Thanks to all who keep on posting. Hope that you realise how very special you are. You are not counsellors, just very special people who continue to support newbies as I am.

You understand the addiction more than anyone. And have overcome it.

2. Understanding the absolute need to never take another drag - it will bring me and us all undone. Back to the smokes.

3. Just a hint-don't tell your non smoking friends you are stopping.

They will not understand and it will bring you grief.

4. I could not have started this non smoking journey without the support of the people on this site.

Thank you. For your time and effort.

5. Even if people don't come back, don't feel your time is wasted.

They may be like me, just had to do it for a few times.

Smoke free since March 30th.

Hi Anne 55, if people don't come back I don't think I have wasted my time. Not ever. It is a scary reminder to the rest of us that just one more puff is the undoing of those who have visited briefly only to disappear just as quickly.

Wise words. To those who have visited briefly - it can be done.

Come back if you can.

strange how it works but if I try help someone else stop or stay stopped they may not stop but so far I have remained smoke free.

so don't stop sharing it does help others and helps you too hard to smoke if your sharing about not smoking :)

well done Anne55 keep up the great work staying smoke free. one day at a time hey!!

I think I would credit this site above all other tools that I used to keep me motivated to keep up the good fight. There is no doubt in my mind that it is only smokers who know how hard it is to stop. Keep on visiting, posting and we'll all muddle through together.

Well, I can taste food at this moment (51 days no cigs) and now I'm asking myself what food/tastes do I really like? I ate beetroot for the first time the other day. I just wanted to try it! I can concentrate better because my lungs have started to relax and I am not always struggling to get oxygen. I can sip on fresh orange juice and "inhale" the flavour (just like I did a cigarette) and not have to gulp all the time.

I went cycling last week and noticed my sense of smell has come back tremendously as I was able to smell the body odour of the guy cycling in front of me. Haha!
