schedule 10 Apr 2016

Don't beat yourself over this. we are fighting a hard battle. You don't name it as start again, just forget that cig and continue quitting. out the patches, use the gum, distract yourself from smoking. You are strong and you will do it. I'm on my day 10 now still fighting. I believe it's a long term fight we will go through.... Stay positive and don't lose hope.

have to learn another way to deal with stress and anger rather then going for the ciggies

schedule 10 Apr 2016

Don't be overwhelmed with the stress, deal with it hour by hour or even minute by minute. try to avoid stressful situations. be optimistic and have faith that you can do it. Good Luck

Hi jules14 stress can be a problem , but I read a post from someone else on this forum some time ago that said remember a cigarette will not change anything, it is so right if we do smoke the stress is still there it doesn't go away, we just need to get through the screaming inside our heads that keeps telling us that we need a smoke. Good luck just take a step at a time, it seems easier if you don't look to far ahead

Its the cigarette thats causing the stress!! We think about them and know that we can't have one. I'm on day 50 and the last few days have been quite horrible. Try and keep busy

Jules I wish I could explain how good it is to be clean of cigs. I was a 55 year user with limited will power so it can be done and it is great. Stick with your efforts and all our support.

nicotine hits dopamine receptors in the brain and that is a feel good chemical released when we smoke , so there is a reason we smoke it does make us feel good.

I have done a lot of research on this and sugar can help in the early stages of recovery as it can help with the dopamine releases, there are other over the counter things that can help, will leave that to you and your Dr, so really those glucose jelly beans from the chemist can help !!

so for me understanding what I am up against is very important as in any battle understanding the combatant is very important.

thanks for sharing your story nothing is wasted here !!

we all wish you well !!

i have struggled i have had a few in the last few days but the way i have done it is i will wait till everyone is in bed and then go and have a smoke and deny that i have had a smoke have to try harder is been a full day today without a smoke. i have come of the champix as the moods swings were out of control and the nightmares and the irritability is really bad. i am doing it cold turkey and i know with support i will get there thank you everyone and goodluck

Hi Jules

I went cold turkey, and that worked for me.

Trying to find the method that suits would be hard, but using a method apart from cold turkey means at some stage to get off them is breaking away from another habit, but if they help you through your hour of needs than go for it.

You will find this support page great, use it as a diary, just to express yourself on a daily basis or every few days, your input less or often is up to you.

Wish you all the best in your endeavours, stay positive in your goal and you will achieve.

I know it's not for everybody, but with my previous attempt (lasted 8 mths, then went on holidays), I found the e-cigs helped with the urge sometimes. Just to hold it and take one or two puffs then put it away helped me a lot. Not the ones with nicotine, just the vapor ones, harmless. I found the habit harder than the addiction at the beginning. I already have them charged and in my bag ready for my big day Monday...just a little lifeline. Hopefully won't need them, but if it helps I'll use them. As I said, I know they're not for everybody, just thought I'd share what worked for me at the time.
