I am back again and still haven't gotten anywhere. It's true - the cut-down method is extremely diffficult. I like how I once seen the cut-down methid defined: "It keeps you in perpetual withdrawl." I feel like I'm in a boat that's constantly rocking back and forth. Yesterday, I braced myself to  quit (or thought I braced myself..lol). So late afternoon I decided to not smoke anymore. I went 5 hours then...I fell off the wagon, bought a pack.

On the one hand I felt good that I coud sustain such a long period on my own time. On the other hand, I could see now what the medical experts say. You see after the 5 hours, I could feel my chest tightening, and if I had not picked up that next cigarette, the gunk (phlem)on my lungs would have been coming up. I should have used that moment to endure the healing of this addiction.

I am going to prepare for tomorrow. To all quitters a sincere CONGRATS...this is such an overwhelming addiction for me - even at the expense of smoking a mere 6 cancer causing, coffin. This addiction is ALLLL BAAAD!

If you managed to cut down to 6 cigs that is great, and a really good place to start to quit from. Easier to give up 6 than give up 26!! I could only manage to get to 11 (okay cut in half!) when I did the cutdown, so 6 is good.

Good luck today cutting them completely

THANK ALL for the encouragement. I really needed the encouragement. Right now at 8:45 a.mm. I just had that last emergency one. You make me feel that I can get this doggone thing done.

Like many of us, I have been doing a lot of Self Help readings and I did notice my addiction is tied to behaviors. I have identified some of my smoking ones - with COFFEE(YIIIKES...another drug...lol), on the computer,

doing paper work, on the phone.

Today, I am going to try to break those behaviors by 1)making an effort to NOT smoke during those times and unfortunately, I am going to buy a pack and only keep 5.

I know you are probably thinking, "WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY!"

But how much would I have to pay for a Smoke Cessation Program mind you, the price of some of the NRT's can be quite costly over time.

As you can see I am really an addict because I am always finding a reason to keep smoking, bit I believe my body wants a level of nicotine everyday and just maybe I can help myself decrease that level of dependency.

I have been at this a long time and this seems to be the best site for me.

BTW _ I did met with my GP and was prescribed the patch, ended up having a semi seizure, I have the 2mg lozenges but am afraid of getting addicted to them. I am a weak person sometimes when it comes to willpower..so I really do not need another addiction.

I'll be back later. GO QUITTERS! GO QUITTERS! GO! GO1 GO!

I was a 30 year pack a day smoker and I quit using Champix and found it really helped with the urge to smoke. Used it for two weeks and then stopped smoking but still using Champix for the 12 week program. Have been smoke free for 24 days now. I also find that drinking a lot of water helps too. Kind of scared when the Champix is done though, I guess it is my crutch. Keep up the good work everybody.

THX Bea444 for the mail and THX everyone for your comments/help. I'm sorry I didn't get back with you but I was tooooo embarrassed due to failure -aka- stupidity! We had a bad storm here in east coast U.S.. So what do addicts do? They pre-plan their smokes to have available when the storm hits.

Yup..it was all over then. The nice cut down to six ended up more to twelve. I have been wrestling with this daggone addiction for a while now but the storm made me realize one great reason why I smoke. While unable to go out due to bad weather, I realize my house is my worst enemy. No, it's not chaotic. I think the real deal is that at home I have the liberty of smoking when I want to(designated area).

Do you know that if I count out 6 for the day and I am out of the house, I have no problems keeping the count down.

When I am out, I may have a smoke or two because I am too busy running errands or working. I have found that when I try to go completely cold turkey, I just end up buying a pack and smoking more. So I am starting back again.

I'm just a pathetic case and do so admire you folks that have put this demon to rest.

K8. You have to keep trying. Your best friend is a cigarette. Your best friend goes everywhere with you. Your best friend is the first thing you see in the morning and the last thing you see at night. Your best friend makes you feel good. The only thing is...your best friend is stealing all your money and gives itself a raise every year. Your best friend makes you stink. Your best friend is slowly killing you. It's hard to quit, really hard, but you can do it! Have you tried Champix? I found it really helps with the cravings. If you really want to quit and I think you do because you wouldn't be on this website, you can do it. Please try again. Keep in touch.
