When does the Champix kick in?

I am two weeks in to the Champix and it has not had any impact on my desire to smoke nor the amount of cigarettes I smoke a day. Tomorrow is my quit date - and frankly it feels as if I will be doing it cold turkey. Anyone else experienced this?

Hi D ... I was day 13 before I quit..but I have heard of people who are day 21 or more..Im day 33 smoke free now and never ever thought I could give up after 35 yrs of smoking 30 a day...I will admit that I did a whole 5hrs cold turkey before I went on the champix out of desperation ..pathetic LOL...so dont be downhearted Im sure it will happen..my doc said dont tie yourself to a date but stop when it feels comfortable for you..were all different so just do things in your own time...Champix definately worked for me so good luck you can do it :o)

Thank you for your reply Lindsey. Congratulations by the way, you have won an extraordinary achievement in quitting. I guess my question to you is this: Leading up to your quit day on day 13, did the Champix have any impact on your smoking?

Thank you for your reply dr. feelgood though I must say I'm not entirely sure what you mean. Are you suggesting the Champix does not become chemically active until the patient wills it to? Or that because Champix has no apparent pharmaceutical effect to date that it is the patients fault for not 'believing in it'? I'm confused - I am certainly aiming to quit which is the principal reason why I am taking the Champix. In any case, I'll certainly find out over the next week whether the Champix is of any benefit.

Hi D,
I havent tried Champix, So cant really comment on how and when it suppose to work.
But i guess you just have to stay committed and believe you'll stop smoking when your time is right,Everybodies different and the impact and effects on champix etc will be different for every-one, So just stay on track, take your tablets and dont stress about it. Im sure it will happen all in due course.
Best of luck and stay positive :)

Hello D, I am on the Champix a week now and have noticed that the smoking has lost it pleasure not entirely, my quit date is this Friday. I am finding it will be in the front of you mind approaching the quit date anyway's but I am just going with it and let go someday this week and it does not have to be Friday, whenever feels right. For example the other night I had run out and found myself walking to a 24 hour in the evening after work for smokes for the next day!!! I cannot wait until I am at the next stage and they are gone out of my house, my bag, my hand and my mouth. Keep posting and good luck to becoming smoke free .

Hi,
I'm on Day 5 of taking Champix... I'm 34 and smokes around 15-20 cigs / day since i'm 15.
Well my first 3 days of treatment, i felt i was normally smoking... no strange taste.. no 2nd effects since i swallow my pills in the middle of breakfast/dinner...nothing special to report...
Yesterday, Day 4, was my first time for taking the evening pill... nothing major here again... except that the cig starts having a strange taste... it is the same feeling when you smoke one after another...leaving you strange taste in your mouth...
I fixed my quit date this coming Sunday... to be honest, i was not very sure and thought that i would maybe push the date for 3 to 4 days more...
Finally today I feel I can do it... Sunday is and will be my quit date :)))
For sure willpower plays a big role here...
Good luck for all of you trying to quit... soon we will no more stink like walking-ashtrays and run like athletes ;)

Hi D. I was day 30 on champix before i stopped smoking! Try not to stress, just go with it. I did how-ever reduce the amount i smoked during those 30 days. If i wanted a smoke i would try and wait another 10 mins, then 20mins etc before having one. Im now day 10 and feeling really good. Good luck, keep us posted!

Hi D. for me is was all will power. This is my second time quiting. First time was 6 months no smokes at all. Then i went to a nye party and gave in to temptation. This time, same as before, I stoped smoking the day i got the Champix. Today im Day 14 smoke free. So it doesnt matter what day u stop. U have just got to want to. Throw the ciggies away and just suffer through what ever happens. but b warned u can never, NEVER touch even one smoke ever again. Good luck

Hi all. I'm on day 12 of champix. 1mg and Been smoking for 20 odd years and tried to give up several times to no succes so I decided it was time for help from the doc. As I said I'm on day 12 and still smoking. Having no effect so far. Is it going to work? No Side affects either, unfortunately!! I know those of you that have want them to stop and I hope it does for you but but I can't wait to start feeling sick when I light one up. Realy want to quit smoking as it doesn't go with running and just done my 1st half marathon. was 18 stone and now down to 13.10 so I gta keep this up. Like others I make have to go cold turkey.
Good luck for all of you and I hope I have as much luck as you.
Thanks. Mark.

This is the second time I have tried Champix. The first time it just made me sick. I have had Zyban before. Severe side effects but I wasn't smnoking! Had a relationship breakdown though. This time I am on Champix again and am on day 8 but no effect yet. Waiting for the drug to start blocking the receptors just like Zyban did. From reading these posts it seems it works differently for everyone

Hi all thought I would post here as my partner and I are currently on champix. We were the same waiting for the magic to happen that would make us just stop. It didn't we had to make a conscious effort to stop. Once we did we still had what I call habbit cravings we didn't crave nicotine just the routine that smoking had become for us. We have been smoke free now for just over 1 month with the habbit craving almost completely gone it feels great. I get bad nausea from the tablets sometimes but am carrying on we want to stop not just for the health risks and cist but to try start a family good luck to you all as you journey the quit path :

Hi everyone, last comment here was 2 yrs ago...are u all still here? Im on day 3 of quitting...I started champix when I quit...all ok so far....I really have tried everything to quit and I am physically sick of smoking with possible COPD(have to be tested) wish me luck with this....good luck all xx

Day 32 of champix. I've stopped for a couple of days twice now. Had one today... I haven't had any side effects apart from remembering my dreams more and some people have told me I don't seem happy anymore. I basically stopped buying smokes but every time I drink with smokers I wind up smoking with them. I think I need to stop drinking and/or hanging out with smokers. But the woman.I've started seeing recently smokes and I can't help myself.... And I don't want to stop seeing her because all else aside she is an amazing person... I don't know what to do.

Chris 1990 I have found getting a vape pen with 0% nicotine stops the habit side and works a treat when I am out with the lads who all smoke. I use the blu pro really helps.

Champix is not working, 15 days now, no side effects apart from being depressed, I'm smoking more then ever. I have emphysema so I have good reason to quit but my habitual personality is running my life and I have no control over it. My wife has recently left me and I'm under so much stress at work. I give up, I really do, I'm just tired of it all. I'll keep reading the success stories for inspiration.

Paulys I made an account to reply to you cause you must be going through a hard time I think I have some advice for you even though only part way through second week while taking the champix the nicotine doesn’t give you that feel good buzz you feel almost the same after a cig as you did before so some people like myself would light up another like if you go for to long without a cig sometimes you will smoke 2 same type of thing as in person said it’s more the habit to break not the nicotine itself so if you can only have one smoke every once in a while and try to delay it when possible and set a quit date that means a lot to you could be anything you should succeed I hope life gets better for you
My story so far on the second day of the second week Days 1-3 no difference besides massive stomach ache when taking pill well so far it hasn’t gone away however prevention in the key I’m a big coffee drinker if I take one with coffee or on empty stomach I’m in for about 30 min of stomach pain so I force myself to slam back 2 glasses of water then take the pill it then only causes slight discomfort then for a little bit it’s more manageable day 4-current cigs do taste funny some common side affects happen sometimes like my arm feels a slight hurt for no reason it’s managable and goes away relatively quick I am having more dreams and remembering them so far it’s just been really wierd stuff nothing bad not nightmares thankfully so it’s managable and sometimes a bit of a stiff jaw goes away after a little it’s also manageable some people say I’m a little more a meany (couldn’t put in a word) I don’t think so I feel the same just usually get frustrated more quick but naturally calm down without a cig (cause it has little to no affect when I do smoke one) but one thing is true and another person mentioned it you won’t look as happy you’ll have a resting angry face (couldn’t put B word) more often because you feel a slight withdrawal almost 24/7 it’s enough you feel it a bit but it’s not bad enough your running to the store or snapping at people for blinking lmao
Sorry my post and long read but I found it very hard to find a lot of detailed and good information what I seen here is probably the best I found so I decided to put my own personal experience in depth if it even helps one person or someone takes something good from it and it helps it’s worth it if anyone wants me to keep this posted just drop a comment and I’ll continue posting as my journey continues

Second time on champix for me. Smoked for 45 years. First time I quit for 7 months, then started again. Stupid, Stupid. Now I am on day 56. champix makes me sick if I don't take it with food. Lots of dreams, really weird dreams. Stopped at day 16 and I have had a couple of slip up when out drinking. But dont feel lick one the next day. I think I am winning, but do feel depressed a lot.

Hi i have quit using champix before. Nothing else works for me. Will power certainly didn't work for me. In my expereince and opinion champix will work when it works, no timeframe. Just keep taking until you notice yourself smoking less and less and the need for a cig has become weaker. Then test if how long you can go without. When it is forever you are there. Keep taking the course beyond the quit point. Lastly - NEVER be tempted to pick another cigarette up again. There really is no point - NOT even socially. ITS OVER!
