DAY 24 HELP FOR STRESS

Posted in Hints and tips
schedule 11 Nov 2011

I have had a week from hell.  Today i had a phone call that just capped off my very bad week. I was shaking angry stressed and P off. I wanted a smoke so bad i was pacing the floor. I thought if i just have one or if i start smoking i'll try and give up another time.

The good news is i did survive smoke free. I put on a patch sucked on a lifesaver and took  1/4 of a valium.

My worry is how do i cope with the stresses of my life. Without going into all my personal life details, I do have a very stressfull life and now i don't have the xmokes for relief.

This week i have also been teary depressed and very very tired and have done no housework or anything much productive.

How do i get back onto the positive feelings of my achievemnets.

Hang in there Kathyrose. You have dome incredibly well to not give in after your phone call. Good on you for having a lifesaver and a bit of a floor pace.

I am sure my brain was playing tricks on me as far as stress was concerned and people would say you used to cope with stress without smokes and I thought I am not sure i had this stress before smoking - so that argument did not wash with me.

What did work, was someone said to me, you know if the house is a mess and you are feeling down it may have absolutely nothing to do with giving up smoking! It could be something that is completely unrelated. It made me realise I was relating everything that was not quite right back to quitting.

Not sure my explanation is helping - but stick with it. One thing that also helped me (and will assist with your no housework) was to actually do a Spring clean of the place, change furniture around the look and feel of the place etc. This then became my non smoking home!!!

Hang in there, we will always have stress and all of the medical evidence suggests smoking actually whilst we think helps us calm down is no stress breaker!

schedule 11 Nov 2011

I feel for you - it's hard finding new ways of dealing with things - harder if things are stressful already.

I keep some mini-lozenges in my bag just in case. Only used them twice since I quit but just knowing I can have a nicotine hit if I really need it helps me.

Going for a good walk (or stomp around) helps me if I get angry.

Be nice to yourself, it's still early days. Housework can wait.

You can do it.

Well done! The best thing here is you didn't cave in, you won. Each and every win makes you stronger and better. You did fantastic! Acknowledging and fighting the stress and those smeaky little ideas and thoughts that haunt us is the secret to winning. Know your enemy and face them front on. You are stronger. You just proved it by not letting the cigs win. I hope you feel very happy with yourself, you are winning.

Hi Kathyrose, I'm a bit late on this one I'm afraid... cynicism helps me, laugh at the irony of situations rather than let them eat at you.

We all knew that you were strong enough to beat this, you've already proved it........ keep going girl!
