Hi,
I'm trying to find the really strong will that states I don't want to smoke. It's wishy washy. Like, my reasons aren't good enough (poor self-compassion?).
I know I'm meant to get rid of cigs lighters ashtrays etc but everyone here smokes. AND, most importantly, my ODD (& so will to stop) is challenged by having the object of control next to me. I look at it and choose NO. I hope each time I do this out of oppositional defiance the 'will' gets stronger.

Today is DAY 1 where I'm calling myself a non-smoker. I lit 1 & puffed x 3 when triggered. Thinking about the object of controll winning made me put it out.

Now I want to brush my teeth - tg for 2min timers or I'd brush for hours.
Is anyone else here ND & battling a non-textbook journey?

If you live or work in a place where everyone else is smoking it can be even more challenging but I think choosing to put that cigarette out shows you’ve already got more willpower/strength than you give yourself credit for. 💪

Also there's no such thing as a textbook journey! Everyone's way of getting through it is different and sounds like you're off to a good start.

How did the rest of yesterday go @eeycee?

It is your decision to quit and see your way to the end of the journey.  You knew it would not likely be easy and what pitfalls lay ahead. lt os what you truly desire that gives you the strenght to carry it through.

My husband sat next to me  smoking for 2 weeks while he read Allan Carr's Easy Way to Quit Smoking. He then had the mindset to quit, and did so 2 weeks behind me. My daughter followed our lead and is quit over 5 years now.

See if your library has the book and make your quit a lot easier. First you quit for YOU.  Perhaps others you care about will follow your excellent example!
