Tomorrow is the first day of being smoke free

I have been smoking for over 18 years now in my 30s and my health is going downhill, my bank account is feeling the pinch and I am just generally sick of being so reliant on something so disgusting, I've been so depressed that i have even started smoking in my house which I have NEVER done, and everything smells. I have my last packet in front of me and today I joined icanquit, NEXT STEP is to go and buy patches, inhaler and maybe a vape. I am doing this for me, my health, my mental health and my skin - but especially for my soul.

Hi Fresh me,
Seek help from the advisors on the iquit site.
I tried to give up 3 years after starting. I failed many many times. I am now 48 and have been stopped 5 weeks.
Had I stopped at 38 - I would be $30,000 richer.

Best of luck!😀

If we can quit smoking, you can too. We found the desire to quit and the courage to follow through. Finding the proper Mindset makes a big difference too. The Battle is won in the Mind, a member once posted. How true!
Stop thinking that you are giving up something (smoking) but CHOOSING to be FREE again. Look forward to becoming that Fresh Me. Smell better, look better and feel better. Live better!
Smoking is an addiction. We did not choose to smoke our entire lifetime when we tried those first few. We believed that quitting was hard and made excuses to continue, afraid that we would fail.
I am sure most if not all of us tried to quit before, but this time can be different with the right tools and mindset.
Smoking does not relieve you of depression or anxiety. That is all in your head. The only thing smoking relieves you of is your money and well being.
You will likely feel even "bluer" when you quit smoking due to the lack of dopamine. Each time we light up, those chemicals we inhale give us a jolt of "feel good". Find other ways of creating this dopamine by exercise, chocolate, lavender and learning. Doing things that bring us pleasure do the same thing.
What gave us the pleasure in smoking, was the relieve of the cravings which we knew would come if we did not smoke and get our "Fix" of Nicotine. By the end of the cigarette, we were "bored". We can break the cycle, endure a little discomfort and come out BIG winners!

Well said Happiness and others. It IS ALL in the mind. What I “ missed” was the nicotine high, the “ kick” of it in my brain. But once you have been quit, even for a little while you realise that this is not actually good and that mental health depends upon maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Nicotine is truly a demon. It takes control of you and your whole life, draining you of your health and joy in life as well as your money. Keep on track with your quit. I learnt that you can’t even take one puff and be a quitter. It’s true that you are not giving up so much as gaining everything.

Also it helps a lot to help others and give them your support. This bolsters other people and your own determination. And it keeps you real, honest. One night I found myself “ sneaking” out to the back of my home for a smoke. Smoking is furtive and full of lies. Don’t fall in to the trap of it ! All the best 🙂🌸

You can do it! Just think of all the beautiful possibilities just a few days after you quit. Its been 600+ days for me now. Trust me life is amazing on the other side of the bridge!
