Just get started

Hello, I have been a smoker thirty one years off and on... this is my fourth attempt and it going to be the last attempt as I going to stay on the journey of been a non smoker. For the first time my WHY is real .. I'm sixty-one years old my health is number one Finances, Number two they are so expensive now and I was sick of saying I have no money... but I could find money to buy cigarette... but I was missing out on all the good stuff that I wanted... number three my two grandchildren I didn't want them to smell that horrible cigarette smell.. plus I want to see them grow up and be there for them, play with them and be able to run around with them without running out of breath. Its my 5th day now I wear a Nicorette patch I have the inhaler and chewing gum it is helping me so much Don't get me wrong yes I have cravings that can be quite strong at times mainly in the afternoon that's when I would have a glass of wine and a cigarette or more.... So to help my self at this early stage I dont have a glass of wine to help with the craving I have my inhaler or gum for that extra boost and I keep a journal so at that time I will set down and write how my day was and how I managed to get through it... I believe that helps my confidence in staying on the journey of been a non smoker... No it's not easier but with the support from my family and friends that believe in me that I can do it... that helps me believe that I can do it too.

I think that you are off to a good start . It seems you have all of your ducks in a row and you are wise to avoid triggers that might weaken your resolve...especially alcohol.
Keep up the positive thinking. I also quit after 40 plus years, so you can too. We can change our minds and our lives!

Thankyou you both for your comments and support... as we know it's not an easy road... just on day at a time... and yes keep reminding your self they are not your best friend... they are very toxic and negative and really who wants that in their lives... Thankyou again....

Hi from what I have read it seems that your wish to stop smoking is a bit hampered by what you are used to doing ie a drink with a cigarette etc. Don’t let this stop you it seems like you are on the right track

Hi Cuba, yes I have stopped smoking 9 day's now and still a long way to go... but I am enjoying every moment I don't have a cigarette... and finding new way's of enjoying my self and feeling better about my journey...
