I know I can do it!

Hi everyone! As a smokers for several years, I have fallen into the habit of first thing in the morning having a smoke, I have it as soon as I get to work, go on my lunch break and before my lunch break ends, after work after food and before bed. Some in between. Can I ask, what has worked for you in terms of breaking that routine? I live with a family of smokers and some mental health issues, so this is my 4th attempt at quitting. I lasted 2 months last time, however had a vape to replace it which I personally believe wasn't any better.

Anyone able to suggest some ideas or tips on how you broke that routine? Thank you in advanced and good luck, keep going with your journey also!!!

Drinking water, taking deep breaths or a game on the cell phone is usually enough to fill the "void" or craving. Thinking positive and learning about your addiction to nicotine, both here and elsewhere are very helpful in stopping smoking. We are stronger than nicotine. New good habits to replace the old, like exercise or meditation are other ideas.

Hello NaeNae2.0 and welcome! I think any of us could come up with some suggestions. You will need to pick something that can help YOU personally. Well, like I keep saying, everyone is different, what works for one, might not work for another. I would suggest:

Read Allen Carr's book. Read MANY posts DAILY from this site (new and old) and use the search tool. Prepare for your quit (get low-cal munchies, write a list of reasons to quit, write of list of benefits you will gain by quitting).

With each urge, do what Happiness said,.. drink water and take long deep breaths and keep busy.

Keep thinking you are strong enough to conquer this addiction. YOU can do this. YOU deserve this. YOU can live a happier life WITHOUT cigarettes. YOU are in control, not the other way around. Enough is enough! The time is NOW!

There is nothing special about all of us. We are on the VERY SAME journey you want to be on (correction: same journey you WILL be on!). If we can do it, so can you. YES,... YOU too can do this!

With me, when I could not stand it any longer, I waited. I just waited an hour to see how I would feel after an hour and honestly, it seemed to work each time. After the one hour I even forgot about the wait! I also went to bed early and kept repeating to myself, that "I can do this".

You will find what works for you. The first step is to just make up your mind and STOP lighting up! Do it for yourself,.. you deserve this!

Keep us posted on your strategy and progress. Best...
