Hi Selby and Welcome.
What is it that you are not sure of?
Not sure of how you are coping? Not sure that you can do this? No longer sure you WANT to do this?
You are here so you must have some WANT to quit, or is it out of necessity? (medical , financial?)
The DESIRE to quit more than we want to smoke is crucial. I hope it is because you are CHOOSING to become a non-smoker. It does have wonderful payoff. Not only more money saved, and health saved, our health can improve overall. Almost immediately our blood pressure is reduced. We start to breathe better and of course smell better in both senses...lol. It doesn't make me type any better, but then again neither did the nicotine.
Embracing the truth that nicotine never did anything for us. It is an addictive drug, and it creates the cravings. Stop taking nicotine for a short time and the cravings go away. Allan Carr says that withdrawal from nicotine is almost imperceptible. The psychological part of the quit is the habitual change. We tend to balk at change unless we want it. You are OPTING for this change so your mind will accept it easier. Keep thinking the positive thoughts.
There is a white square of paper with a black dot in the center. Which do you see?
The white represents the good in our life, but all most see is the tiny problem that spoils that pristine page. They dwell on it and it seems bigger than it is.
Change how you view smoking and quitting can even be EASY. We have been told it is hard and therefore it must be hard for all.
You reallly can make it easier or harder. The mind is a wonderful thing, but works in mysterious ways. For example, A fish bone scratched my throat and didn't lodge there as I imagined. Once assured by the doctor, it stopped bothering me at all.
You didn't say how you were quitting smoking. Aids like Champix and NRT....Nicotine Replacement Therapy help with the nicotine end, but the larger part of the picture is how we think about smoking and how we deal with its absence in our new way of life..
Knowing that never did anything for us makes it easier to let go of.
I and others will assure you that we love our new found freedoms, money saved and better health. Not to mention the pride and satisfaction of kicking nicotine to the curb and regaining the confidence that smoking stole from us.
So much to learn, and so many reasons to stop smoking. Absolutely none to keep smoking and destroying. Believe you can do it, and you will. Read and learn. Knowledge is power!
Warm welcome to you, Salby.
Lots of support, kindness and successful long-term quitters here to share a wealth of experience and advice. Let us know what you're feeling and we'll all try to help.
