Hello, I am a 29 year old female. I started 6 years ago although I had been against smoking throughout my life. Long story cut short, I dont know when it got out of hand and I was at almost 20 a day. The lockdown got me to reduce. But not completely. I started facing health issues recently - chest pains, skin darkening, grey hair and I could see my life ahead. The worst of all? I could not share with my family because it would devastate them completely. I have finally come about making an attempt to quit and I bought nicotine tablets. I still have a pack of smokes for emergency but I am willing to resist and test my body. There is a sensation in my hands. I have been unproductive whole day. I cannot focus on work. But I have ordered supplied - mints, candies and incense sticks to keep myself distracted. I am looking for motivation on this group to help me going. I hope I can really pull this off and lead a healthier life. Thanks guys. I think this should be a good outlet to support my journey.

Welcome divi, we can certainly support your quit, and many others may want to put a word in to support you too. It is great that you have reduced your smoking, but your mental health can support you by putting the thought that this is a full stop of smoking. To do this it does help to say or write down (NOPE) not on puff ever, when you are ready to do so. If you keep practicing this Mantra, or find another Mantra that fits you, then your mind will accept that this quit is for good.

You can also read as many posts as you like every day, this will keep you focused on the aim to quit. Meditation and deep breathing for a few minutes during your day will also help you focus on other things you can do, with your hands. Now is the time to discover a hobby which you would like to do or find new ones which give you a happy feeling.

Have a look at "How to grow to be a happy Non Smoker" by NASIA DAVOS or start reading Alan Car's book both are free online.

Your motivation is within yourself, you just have to find it and why not enjoy the experience rather than thinking it is something you hope for in the future, the present is your future, enjoy every moment. Keep in touch by reading other posts and post when you want to.

Hello Divi.

You asked how did it get out of control? I just touched on that on a recent post. Please read replies as well as just the initial l post for insight and advice.

Don't think about how you are missing the cigarette. Think how you were ruled by them. They cause this. Learn to despise them. Learn how you were tricked. Learn how you are an ADDiCT to nicotine. Know that you are doing the right thing and that things willl get easier. Know that no one ever regrets quitting smoking. Have you ever heard of someone wishing they smoked?

Life is great as a non-smoker You will adjust and love the freedom. Learning the truth makes the MINDSET needed to make the quit both easier and permanent. There is no willpower needed when you don't want to do something.

Read and Learn. Learn to really want to quit smoking. So many reasons why to quit smoking and absolutely none to continue .
