Hi all,

Im new to this community so I thought I’d start by sharing my past experiences.

I first decided to quit in 2019. I lost a loved one in 2018 which sort of pushed me off the edge. It was easy to drown my sorrows in 2-3 packets of smokes, junk food and alcohol.

During my first attempt I did use Champix but I substituted normal cigarettes for herbal ones. I managed to stay smoke free for two months.

Last year I brought home a beautiful puppy. It felt like I was ready to crawl out of my self made hole so I went and bought Champix again. But I made the mistake of buying a vape and with the pandemic and all the lock downs, I managed to stay smoke free for a month. (The vaping device broke and I once again went to buying cigarettes).

In January this year I was thinking of quitting once again, so it was sort of funny that my cousin called and told me that she’d finally quit smoking.

It was one of those ‘if she can do it why can’t I’ moments for me. Once again I bought my packet of Champix but this time I smoked for three weeks even with the Champix. One day I managed to outdo myself and realized that I hadn’t smoked 2 or 3 packets but 5 packets of cigarettes.

In 15-16 hours of being awake I’d managed to smoke a 100 cigarettes! I knew I was ready to give up then and there. I carried on with my Champix just to make sure that I wouldn’t give in to the cravings, but eventually I stopped taking that as well and have been smoke free for 5 days now.

This time it’s different! I’m not craving smoking (or thinking of alternatives that I can smoke instead) and I’m 100% certain that I do not want to touch another cigarette ever again! I hope to celebrate my six months smoke free and more with you guys on the forum!

I have been a bit tired but I’ve quit smoking, alcohol and caffeine so I can imagine that my body needs time to adapt to the change after a decade of careless consumption on my behalf. I do hope that in a months time I can quit sugar and start dieting as well, I need to lose all the weight I’ve gained in the past three years!

Hi Belle! Thank you so much for sharing your story with us. I'm new to the forum too and today is only my 6th day smoke free so we can be quit buddies! Am experiencing headaches and short attention span but I'm determined to make this my final quit. I need to lose a little bit of weight too. Good luck with your quit and stay positive!

Hi Belle20 and welcome to the forum. It is still early days so I would recommend that you read our stories and find the mindset to battle the ensuing psychological part of quitting smoking after the nicotine has been expelled from our bodies..

Many feel lost and mourn the loss of something so familiar to them. Treated as a friend through good times and bad as it was. When you accept to learn the truths and how it was a waste of time , energy and money and did absolutely NOTHING for us, we hope that you will look at smoking in a different light. We hope you will put it behind you happily, not begrudgingly. We hope you come to the realization that you don't need it. Value your freedom and desire better things in life that smoking only hinders you from.

We can quit smoking PERMANENTLY , even easily , as I did with the right mindset.

PrincessMononoke quit buddies sounds great! 😊 I’m not sure if it’ll help but maybe upping your water intake might help curb the headaches.

Happiness, thank you!

You are right! With the right mindset we can achieve anything!

I have been reading other people’s stories and experiences to keep myself motivated. I’m glad I found this site, it’s so much easier to stay on track when you can share your struggles with a community that understands where you are coming from.

Could the headaches be from caffeine withdrawal? I know i would get them if I didn't drink coffee and was fine once I did. You should cut down on the coffee by half when quitting smoking to avoid feeling jittery, from too much caffeine. (some quitters would calll it anxiety) Apparently from what I have read, nicotine would take from its overall effect. So no nicotine.....cut coffee by half.

I hope this helps .
