I am on day 4 and finding it hard. I haven't been sleeping much averaging 3 hours a night. Is this normal? I would like to hear the positives from people that have quit. What areas in your life have improved? Does it improve your mental health? What I have noticed is my coughing has really improved, I don't have that chesty cough anymore. My coughing was really embarrassing as I work in a contact centre on the phone and I had to cough while in the phone. Also not a good look especially with COVID-19 when out in public. Am still feeling strong just the cravings can be overwhelming at times.

I'm also on day four! I hear you about the coughing - I'd cough and people would look at me alarmed. I'm like "no, I don't have covid, I'm just a smoker"
My sleep has also been disrupted. I'm on Champix and it has worked so far (except with alcohol, it makes you crazy). My doc gave me sleeping tablets but that interacted with the champix so I stopped.
It helps me to think 'well, winston churchill only slept four hours a night' - it's the stress of not sleeping that impacts on the not sleeping. So I play sleep meditations from youtube and it helps a lot.
Whenever I have a craving I remind myself of CBT. Tell myself it's only the addiction that is craving it, I don't want it. A friend of mine the other day said when she quit she imagined licking out an ashtray! :-)

I quit smoking and slept like a baby. I also stopped the morning cough and had no more breathlessness episodes. When you really want something, you embrace it and take comfort in it. I had an easy time quitting smoking with this frame of mind. I then read Allan Carr and understood why my journey seemed so easy. Both my spouse and daughter also found it easy and minimal cravings. Desire the freedom that quitting smoking brings. No more holes, no more stink, no more blizzards......Bring on the fresh air, extra money and more energy.

Welcome Leonora, Congratulations on getting smoke free. I too had problems sleeping, but it was the Champix and I had the most vivid nightmares too. No other problems, but this was the cause of my tiredness I would say. I eventually left the night tablet off and this helped my sleep a whole lot more. Some people have reported that the evening tablet should be taken with food. I had no problem with the half dose and the rest was my own determination research and staying close to this forum.
The meditation was my own salvation along with notes on my phone every day. This will get better as it did for me, Bells has the right idea, you need to figure out your approach to any situation, and remain happy that you have decided to do something for yourself which has benefits that outweigh any early disturbance.

Congrats on quoting! I hope you are still going strong! For me the positives have been, 1 not smelling horrible anymore, saving lots of money, being able to walk everyday about 10km and not having to worry about having a pack of cigs handy!! I am having some throat issues which are being looked at but this started while I was smoking and I blame it on smoking. Keep at it before you know, everyday will get easier and easier!
