I don’t feel any different on Champix, I wonder if it’s actually working?

schedule 12 Nov 2019

How long have you been taking Champix lizzie777? Champix works by adhering to nicotine receptors in the brain and diminishing the pleasure that smoking gave us. Since there is no nicotine in it, you are nicotine free after 3 or 4 days except for trace amounts after your last cigarette. The cravings are psychological . We all have to accept that we no longer smoke. Old habits are triggers. Don't dwell on a craving , just let it go. You decided to quit smoking. Simply tell yourself that you no longer smoke.

Embracing the journey rather than missing the old days is key to a faster, easier transformation to a non=smoker. Think positive. You can do it.

Hi thanks for that. I’ve been taking it since September and still smoke just as much as I always did, my inhaler helps however

schedule 13 Nov 2019

So perhaps I am confused. You said in the other post about saving the money, so you have cut down yet you say Champix isn't working? And if you are still smoking as much as you always did then why are you using an inhaler? Are you talking about another NRT? ( Nicotine Replacement Therapy). Please choose one or the other as they work in different ways.

While you are still smoking any ways, why not spend the time one on one and make it time that you resent taking out for it. Stand outside, no diversions, just you and it. Taste the poison in it. Smell it and know that you are smelled too. Think of it as getting your medication, a fix, for that is really all it is. It is an end to the craving that you have given in to for years. Realize how time consuming and controlling it has been in your life. Read and learn about the mindset and how you can get back the control and reap the benefits of being a non-smoker. Embrace the new you with enthusiasm for you will not regret it.

Why are you still smoking lzzie you should be free of cigarettes between 8 to 35 days....You need to think of stopping not prolonging the quit in any form. Do you have a quit day?, if not make one in a few days and ride it out without any additional help, this means you will be sorting out your priorities in how you deal with your free time.

I stopped smoking before Champix hit the market. At least I hadn't heard of it. My experience with quit aids like Zyban, gum, lozenges, patches etc is that you have to make some effort.

You are going to experience some discomfort - whether that is physical or psychological - the aids cannot do it all for you.

Some years ago I watched a TV show, 60 Minutes or A Current Affair, something like that. They said that there is a portion of the smoking community who are not psychologically equipped to quit smoking, that these poor folk can never give up.

I absolutely reject this!

I know it is a well worn saying but, "If I can quit, anyone can!"

Believe me, I am an alcoholic (sober 21 years) narcotics addict (clean 21 years). In short if there is an addictive substance that offer some feel good or comfort I will abuse it. I am a human garbage can.

Yet even I was able to quit smoking. As I am sure you will be able to also. Become willing to bear a little discomfort, latch onto every support you can, such as this forum, and you will prevail. The whole mess will be over before you know it and one day you will sit back, free, and wonder what all the fuss was about.

I too know first hand addictions other than smoking, I know the aids cant do it all for you, I don’t believe I said they could.

I wish you every success, Lizzie. I sincerely mean that. Every time a smoker quits it hurts those fat cats at the tobacco companies. I bet they don't even smoke. Let's put a few nails in their coffins.

Good luck to you and please keep us informed.

Cheers
