schedule 18 May 2019

Dear I can quit community, I’m going to quit June 1st and I’m really nervous about it. I’ve tried to quit before and failed. I’m going to use the nicotine patch to help me. I hope it’s not to late to help my health and breathing. Any tips would be appreciated.

Thank you! I am 55 years old and have been smoking since I was 15. I smoke a pack a day.n

I would also like to add that I have a bi polar disorder and an anxiety disorder and smoking helps cope with those things

Knowledge is power. Please read and learn about nicotine addiction. We have made excuses for smoking all of our lives, and none of them are valid. We only believe them to be our crutch in times of stress and in social settings. The truth is that nicotine is a vial addictive drug that the tobacco company adds even more chemicals to give you a quicker and higher high, irrelevant of the poisons... and the governments sanction it. Stop pouring your hard earned dollars into a death trap.

Click on my name and follow my stories and read Allan Carr's book. It is free on line and teaches everything you need to know. Most valuable is the Mindset, and way of positive thinking that enables you to see through the addiction and enables you to face the fear of quitting.

Embrace this journey as it is the best thing you will ever do in your life. It is astounding how our health improves almost immediately. The body is a wonderful thing and the mind is even more powerful. Think positive about this mission and you can do it. Many other have and do every day.

Since you are not quitting for a couple of weeks i might suggest following my outline on my story "If you've Given Up , Given Up. Try This!" Ease into this without undue discomfort and fear. Learn the mindset and practice distracting yourself from cravings. Start today and you will be prepared. Read all the posts so you know what to expect. Remember that everyone is different and you are in control. You alone make this easy or hard. Do it right once and never look back.

Believe you can and you will.

Hi marg, I quit with the help of champix, certainly not for everyone, but I suffer from anxiety and ocd. I can honestly tell you that my anxiety is less than half of what it was when I was a smoker, I would smoke when stressed and my heart rate and blood pressure increased and then anxiety through the roof. I am 48, smoked for 30 years, now on bp meds, but at this rate will be off soon, talk to nuts, she used patches successfully, you ARE GOING TO FEEL SO GOOD.

The one thing I can say for sure is to make this community a part of your non-smoking life. They are an amazing group that can and will give you all of the encouragement and support you will need. We are all pulling for you! 😄 Good luck!

Margierolfe, I tried many times to quit and failed until I finally decided I wanted to be smoke free. We can all do it if we really want to be smoke free, it's a choice between an addiction that takes your health, money and self respect against a new life of freedom from nicotine.

At 55 your a youngster, I and many others quite after 60, so it can be done. I used NRT which worked for me, others cold turkey. Read a variety of posts and find a method, or combination of methods that resonates with you. The method doesn't matter, only the goal of being smoke free. You can do it.

schedule 29 May 2019

Thank you for your posts and emails they’ve really helped me think I can quit. I’m getting close to the date now and I really have to buckle down. I’m reading Allen Carr’s book right now although I’m finding the American version doesn’t reasonate as much as the British one did I’m hoping it will still work. Wish me luck on this journey and again thank you for your encouragement:)

Look forward to the day you start your journey. You have already started it by understanding and knowledge. Embrace this journey and all it has to offer. It is so doable and worth it!

schedule 1 Jun 2019

I quit! I Smoked my final cigarette the afternoon of the 29th after I finished Allen Carr’s book. It feels so strange to be a non smoker but I feel free at the same time. I already feel better so that’s encouraging. Thanks again for your support. :)
