schedule 23 Feb 2019

Finally the step towards quitting a very bad addiction of smoking. Funny enough I cannot stand the smell of a cigarette and always uses hand sanitisers to get rid of the smell after a smoke. Its my 4th day on champix and I had funny feelings of painful stomach cramps and a runny tummy. My GP never warned me about any side effects, but I do trust his judgement. I can feel a difference in my habit is turning positive and I no longer crave. I'm smoking far less for the past 4 days and I know with this will power I will be smoke free soon!! Good luck to those who are also on the path of quitting

Hello Daleen. It concerns me that your doctor didn't warn you of any side effects, when it fact there are many. Champix has been known to cause extreme depression and suicidal thoughts, not that that is common, but a fact . Did you doctor tell you to join a quit group like this one? Did your GP tell you that Champix alone will not make you quit, nor stay quit?

You have come to join a great support group with lots of information if you take the time to look around, read and learn. Knowledge and understanding the nicotine addiction go a long way in this journey to freedom from smoking. Think positive and embrace the fact that you can become and non-smoker and you will do just fine. Congratulations for taking the first steps.

Hi Happiness

I am just as shocked to have read the stories of people using champix and all the side effects, it really had me worried. I decided to browse the net after I felt a bit dizzy and having to deal with the sudden runny tummy. Unfortunately my GP did not inform me of any aide effects, nor to join a group.

Quitting was a long and hard try for a few years, I think I was not that serious about quitting as I am now and I know that I will beat the addiction as I believe a positive start the best way forward. Thank u for the positive input, it is much appreciated and I am planning to call my GP tomorrow regarding this matter.

Greetings,

It was not my intention to scare you, only to inform. It is a great move you made joining this forum and learning that there is much more to quitting smoking than just putting the cigarettes to rest. It is about accepting becoming a non-smoker and dealing with that process, for it is a process. The more you know and the more you want to quit, the easier it can be. I hope this helps you to have an easier journey, and all the best!

Hi Daleen & Happiness... i too quit with a bit of help from Champix... i did not go the recommended time as i had a "Cancer" scare while on it!!

My Dr never told me about any side effects that i can recall...however...i know all medication have some, and i did skim the pamphlet...there was an extensive list!!! 0_O With that being said i had the intention of not being on them for an extensive amount of time...i ended up doing 5 weeks! .

I am now almost 6 months in my quit after having been a smoker for close to 42 years! :(

o, sorry...i should add...i'm doing great!! no issues...i stopped the champix and i've been fine! the cancer scare was a "melanoma (skin) type cancer" (type my father was diagnosed with yrs ago & that he succumbed too) , and it appeared on my hand (same spot as my Dad, same hand) 5 weeks into my champix! i blamed it on that and stopped taking them.

Joanne, a WELL DONE to u dear. I'm smiling ;-) and Red67 I totally agree that if we are serious to quit then quitting is possible and yes I agree as well of the fact that a Dr must inform their patients of the drug /side effects when giving them any drug... Well I am doing great so far with my 5th day on champix. I feel more air through my lungs as I am smoking far less than I did before champix... ;-)

Hi Darlene, I am currently on champix, 3 weeks now, only 1st day of no smoking. I had a little nausea but used the sea sick bands which seemed to help, some crazy dreams but not scary, a little tired. I pushed the champix ability, smoking smelled horrible after 1st week and I cut down by half, then was wasting half cigarettes. I am not panicked at all, not getting crazy withdrawals just having trouble breaking habits, after every chore I keep heading toward the back door, then I realise there is no ciggies there, I just go outside and breath, I suffer from anxiety but I do not think my mental health has been affected negatively at all by champix, I am feeling quite well actually,
