I want

I am 65 year old female. I want! I need to be smoke free! I am up to 2 packs a day and feel terrible with multiple health issues. I want to go cold turkey without gaining weight. Thought I would try gum. Any advise would help. Tomorrow October 9th is my quit day or when this pack of cigarettes is gone. I was hoping to find a quitting partner to give each other moral support as my kids sad all three smoke but they weren’t ready. I am lucky as my husband of 43 years has never smoked and put up with my nasty habit. Kind of forum illiterate so forgive as I navigate into this. Thank you. Lil Zoo

Good luck I want. My quit day was yesterday although I began on Saturday. I am using patches and although there have been a tough few moments so far I have not fallen short. But like you I have a non smoking partner and God so I know I can do it. Stay strong and motivated.

26years ago I used the patches. I thought they helped considerably. Yes there were still craving moments. Apparently they changed something because trying them I recently I had a allergic reaction. I just felt I made it and I lost my dad, worn out and devastated I picked up one pack of cigarettes. Can’t do that I learned just makes you smoke more and makes it even harder to quit again. Good luck to you. Thank you when I feel weak I will pray for God’s help thru it. Good news my son has decided to try also. That’s the hardest all of them picked up my bad habit. I need to set a better example now. My oldest daughter is diabetic. My youngest daughter has Lymphoma and my son has asthma.

Thank you Kitty. I am blessed that I do crochet, quilt, and make rugs. I never thought how much more I will get done not stopping for a smoke. Coffee and cigarettes go together. I will need to change my morning routine never thought of that. We can do this. 13 days that is so good. You should be proud of yourself. I will be very busy for a while cleaning the nicotine out of my home. I to tried different times to cut down. All would go well then bad mood and I will quit later. I like you decided it has to be all or forget. I do wish I might have been able to use the drug, but take so many pills now. I worried about interactions, so didn’t ask. My mother quit cold turkey she said it was setting ones mind to it. Many thanks for all the ideas. One doesn’t think of these things. Sometimes I wish I could just sleep away this week to get thru the hardest part.
I quit last Thursday, today is my six day, I had a slip up though, I had a stresfull and sad situation I was crying and I smoked one, I felt guilty after, and every time that i have cravings I read this gruop, experiencies it help me a lot.

I am proud of you. It would of been so easy just to give it up but you didn’t. You smoked just one, kicked yourself and kept going. I feel you are going to make it. I got such a craving. I had weak moment and hunted thru every pocket in my closets for just one. So lucky I did good job cleaning them all out. Really rough after eating. Need to give that up to. Those moments are rough, during those moments I question myself. Maybe I should of tapered, maybe I should of used a nicotine replacement but myself if I linger it out my will power will faulter. I tried nicotine longentures and I just wanted a cigarette worse after it was gone.

Try after dinner mints..i like the dark chocolate covered mints... for me, it really helps... course lotsa water..flush flush flush!

Give that a try. Making it but my jaw is hurting from chewing gum so hard. Hopefully I will be able to slow down on chewing as the days go by. I am having some problems with sleeping. I suspect that is a symptom of the addiction to nicotine. I feel like one mote day done then I keep waking up evert hour. It will pass I am sure as I get thru this. How many days for you?

Hi Lil zoo. I sympathise with you and your situation but do whatever it takes. I am 75 years of age and was a 55 year smoker 6 years ago and the benefits are indescribable. I used patches and this site to get me through the first weeks and it was difficult but achievable. We are with you and know you can do it.
