First attempt

I have just quit for the first time after being a social smoker for 15 years. I know I don't smoke every day, but I'm still finding quitting for good really heavy going whenever I encounter one of my triggers: 1) Alcohol 2) Watching sport live 3) hitting a pub with the lads. Every time I touched any alcohol I couldn't resist the urge to light up and smoke half a pack over a session of binge drinking. Now I'm trying to resist by using an inhalator which has really been working very well every time I have a drink now.... but I wonder how long I can keep this going for. I'm planning ahead for the next "Trigger occasion" this weekend (going to the footy) so that I can be prepared for when the cravings hit, but I must say I really do miss the relaxing buzz of a smoke and a beer on a weekend..... but I know I'm much better off without it. I hope I can keep this going permanently.

Thanks very much Robn. You're totally right. I have to get the mindset right, and I feel I'm halfway there but I still stupidly find myself "missing it" when I get triggered. I will keep at it. Thanks again for reminding me

Dear Kout, I understand the association you had with smoking and your walk. i am in the process of making new pathways in my brain. I must reassure myself that I will feel better without them.
